Can I put vinyl over tiles?

I have a pretty rubbish floor in the bathroom because the ceramic tiles were put straight onto floorboards (not by us) and so are moving and cracking....obviously these are no longer waterproof so we need to sort it. Can I put vinyl tiles straight on the top and seal around the edge?

That I think would just compound the issue, adding another layer that you would have to get rid off later on.
Why not just remove the tiles and redo the floor?
If you don't intend on saving the tiles, their removal will be fairly straightforward whichyou could do yourself.
Then pay the same for the vinyl floor to be laid in the bathroom.

I don't think it would work especially if the tiles underneath are broken. I would remove the tiles and then replace. You could also replace with Lino (or a posher form of Lino).

We had rubbish tiles in our old kitchen, so I put sheet vinyl over the top. Didn't work because after it had settled down you could see the pattern/grid of the tiles underneath. You need a totally smooth floor for vinyl to sit properly.

I think it might just trap the dampness and make things worse.
