What would you do with this layout?

We're going to see this house this week - it's a ground floor bungalow, three bedrooms. We would want to go up to a second floor eventually but couldn't afford it for years.

What would you do with the layout in the meantime? There is so much wasted space.

It's a bit difficult to re-jig without seeing where the doors and windows currently are?

What's your budget?

Have you had a structural engineer over to see how easy/hard/expensive it will be to move internal walls? Is there scope to extend out the back?

Are the kitchen and living room totally separate or interconnecting (can't tell without seeing the doors)

Is the white space the hall way? Looks big enough to be called a dining "hall"

I actually think the layout is pretty good for a bungalow (I live in a 3 bed bungalow too!)

Alexandra87 · 16/08/2017 22:35

I think the layout looks fine as it is

Bellaposy · 16/08/2017 22:40

Thanks for the thoughts.

Yes the white area is the hall (took me a while to figure that one out).

@againplease kitchen and living room are separate. I'm going to mark on the doors when we go round I was just thinking of ideas before we knuckle down to the serious stuff. My dad is in that line of work so he's coming with us.

You could make one of the bedrooms ensuite and add additional storage in the hall depending on where the bathroom door is x

Maybe like this? Depends how much floor space you're working with.. and whether you like open plan living..

Could you move the front door to where the bathroom is? Then you could have a straighter hall that takes up less space. I'd get an architect to draw you up plans including the loft conversuion now, so you know where the stairs will go and don't have to re do work

Thank you @againplease and @mooneypie they're both brilliant ideas. Thank you for the floor plan Again - really helped to visualise it.
