Moving more rural - did you regret it?

We currently live in a commuter town - around 1.5 miles from the town centre. Our house is on a busy cut through road, semi detached and we would really like a quieter road and more space.

We are looking at a house that is around 4 miles from town, very rural, on its own down a country track. It's in a hamlet with no pub and no shops.

We are weighing up the pros and cons - most are obvious, i.e. longer drive to station/work/school run, no shops within walking distance etc. But did anyone make a move like this and really regret it? Is there anything we might not be thinking of?

Thanks.

Yes we did- left Worcester. Lived 20min from a town.
Did it for 4 years but got fed up of the cliquey village, lack of facilities and the long time it took to do anything. Plus the fuel costs!

We loved the house- large 1/2acre garden to grow veg and raise our own poultry but the serious journey times just to get milk or to get to the docs meant I had little time for the garden.

We move back to Worcester on Friday!

I HATE it. I'd give my right arm to move back to Greater Manchester 😩

Ah yes the internet. We had a internet speed of max 1.1 Mbps. It's was usually more like 0.8 Mbps. That was the other main reason we moved back to the edge of town.

I grew up rurally - really rurally. Six miles from a village even. Loved it, but wouldn't choose something quite that rural now (not because of the distance, but because we literally lived at the end of the road in a valley - nothing past us except the mountain!).

It's a different lifestyle. You learn not to forget things when shopping. Driving long distances is a lot nicer when there's no traffic and the views are beautiful.

Re: teens - yes, think about transport (we had a school bus that did a tour of the valley), but to be honest, we generally spent a lot of time with our friends after school and parents were fairly relaxed because they knew there was a limit to the amount of trouble we could get into.
