Electrics blown upstairs - any ideas??

I'm hoping that someone - looks for pigletjohn - can help us figure this out and avoid getting an electrician in...

A fuse tripped on Friday, seems to only be our upstairs plugs that are affected. The switch says B32 on it. We've been through the upstairs of the house and unplugged everything, we were hoping to plug things back in one at a time to locate the source. However, even when everything is unplugged and the socket switches are off, we still can't flip the switch back up. It just instantly flicks down.

Any ideas what else we could try or what might be the problem?!

Thanks....

My guess is that there is something else affected on the same circuit. Not necessarily upstairs. Sounds like a short somewhere. Unplug everything in the house and then put the power back on and try everything in turn.

for a B32 to trip instantly, you have a serious fault. I'm thinking a damaged cable, e.g. nail through floor, screw into wall, heavy object crushing something, rat or dog gnawing cable, conceivably a water leak.

have you done any DIY recently?

Damp? We've had some awful rain, this week.

Oh god
Yes, partner did some DIY - put lamps up in bedroom but literally just screwed them to wall and that was a couple of weeks ago
We also found two rats in the kitchen eating the cat food on Friday (same day the fuse tripped) - they are no longer in the house but I can't vouch for their friends :/
What a week :(((

Ours did this when we had a serious condensation problem. We turned the power off and unscrewed a few of the lights and found water in them Shock

Eek, sounds like you might need the electrician then. Good luck!
