Where to start with new downstairs loo design

We have moved into a house which needs a lot of work but the downstairs loo is going to be a priority as the suite is so old and horrid.

How do we go about redoing it? Is it as simple as buying a toilet and sink and finding a plumber/tiler? How much would that cost, roughly? Any tips on where to look for a toilet/basin?

What style do you want? Super modern or vintage, will it be tiled and what sort of flooring?
Have a look at Pinintrest and Houz to get ideas. List the elements you like and then get quotes from plumbers.
A refurbished WC/ cloakroom will have to comply with building regs e.g., have a fan.

Thanks JT, it doesn't have a fan now so that is interesting. No idea what I want, probably tiled floor and walls neither super modern nor vintage! Grin

Yes - you choose what style you want and find a plumber. If you are replacing a toilet with a toilet and a basin with a basin then it's a fairly straightforward job.
Depending on the room available (many downstairs toilets are under the stairs and not very roomy) - tiling can be a pain in the bum, so might be quite time consuming. If you have no shower in there, then papering would probably be fine.

It isn't under the stairs and no shower. Any particular suggestions - online or otherwise for where to buy the suite from? We have boxed in pipes at the moment but that hasn't been done very nicely so how/who would box them in again this time? The plumber? I'm clueless as you can tell!

First, find a plumber/bathroom fitter. Local recommendation is best, otherwise look on Checkatrade.
He will advise you on what you need. He will probably recommend a local supplier. You can talk to supplier about loo/basin that you would like. They can usually match on-line prices.
Plumber may be able to do the floor for you, or arrange for someone to do it. He will sort out the boxed in pipes too.
It will probably cost more than you expect, labour isn't cheap these days.
