Help! Neighbours affecting sale of our house!

Hi,

We are in the process of selling our house. All of the negative feedback we have had so far is about our neighbour's property rather than our own. The garden and drive are a complete mess with loads of rubbish and old furniture piled in a muddy heap. A year ago my husband and other neighbour hired a van to take some stuff to the dump and 'kindly' offered to take some of their rubbish away too - rusty old fridge and rotten sofa that had been on the lawn for about a year. They said yes, but the next day the heap of rubbish was replaced with loads more crap! (I think as a two fingers up at us). Another neighbour asked if/when the rubbish might be moving but was told they can do what they want with their land.

We don't like having to look at it, so I can understand that it is putting prospective purchasers off! They are actually very quiet neighbours, it's just a dump.

What would you do?

Speak to environmental health and tell them you've seen rats.

First port of call would be to have a conversation with them. Explain that you are trying to sell and that it's putting buyers off. That you appreciate it's their land but you are happy to help them clear the front and would be ever so grateful if they could keep it tidy whilst you are trying to sell.

If that doesn't work then it's a complaint to Environmental Health, but be aware that this may qualify as a neighbour dispute that you would have to declare on your seller's pack.

I went out in the dead of night (several nights in a row) and cleared my neighbours weeds.

I think you do what you can to clear their shit. Move and be done!

Do remember to keep it up before exchange incase they drive past tho' ! 😉

Offer to pay for a skip and help clear do not contact environmental health you will have to declare it

Thank you. We did clear their stuff before (lugged mouldy, sodden sofas and mattresses to the dump), but they chucked more stuff out and covered the spot within days. I think as two fingers up at us. They're not very reasonable and I don't want to get in a dispute as you then have to declare it. I think we might need to resort to moving it in the middle of the night and taking it to the dump!!!

Could you ask a friend to make an anonymous report to Env Health? Don't know if anonymous reports are accepted but it's worth a go. It's not "your" dispute then.

Bellabelloo · 14/08/2017 22:31

Hmmmmm.... Maybe....!!!

Where do people get all this endless crap from?

You'll never sell it unless to equal skanks. That would be lucky, so I think you have no alternative but to force these dirty buggers to clear up by involving the authorities.
