White induction hob - yay or nay?

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 12/08/2017 22:53

We're redoing the kitchen and I want an induction hob in the big kitchen island. The top of the island is going to be white quartz or Corian. Ideally I want something that looks like white stone with some sort of veining in it but not too dark and I thought a white induction hob might work better at blending in. That part of the kitchen is quite dark due to aspect and low ceiling.

However, I'm a bit concerned a white induction will stain or date very badly. Any thoughts?

Very interested to hear from anyone who has one :)

I'd say step away from Corian. I've had a kitchen rebuild and gone with Silstone worktops, despite MN advising against. It was finished in early April and is looking fab and easy to work with. The hob is black induction.

We stayed in a holiday house with a white induction hob and it was an absolute nightmare to get/keep clean, and that was with lazy
holiday cooking, so a quick pan of pasta for dc, absolutely everything left horrid brown pan marks that had to be scraped off. It was such a shame as it looked lovely with white work tops but was so impractical. We have black induction at home with oak work tops and have no problem at all with it.

Not quite what you're after but I have a black induction hob set in a white Corian island and it looks fab.

The Corian is so bright the hob doesn't take away any light and I think the contrast looks lovely Smile

Oh no, it's not looking very hopeful for the white hob.

I don't know if I want a black one :(

I wouldn't go for a white hob. Not because of the cleaning etc, but just because it is so tricky to get whites to look 'right' together. Chances are it will be a different 'white' from the 'white' of the worktop. Given that, I'd prefer a contrast personally (whether that be black worktop/white hob or white worktop/black hob) ...

I was considering it (and have white ovens surrounded by white cupboards), but was advised you can get scorch marks on them. I also couldn't find a white one I wanted in the ZuK. Ultimately we got a darker worktop and have a black induction hob.

What about this if you want a statement piece

*UK, not sure where ZuK is Confused!

We have a pale grey induction hob on mainly white quartz and love it- super easy to clean.

flickertee · 13/08/2017 09:33

Ooh QuitMoaning that's gorgeous!

I have white corian surface and it looks lovely but is a pain to keep looking streakfree. And really makes easy. I find bar keepers friend power cream is the only thing that touches it. But that doesn't smell good like my beloved zoflora Grin

QuitMoaning · 13/08/2017 09:45

I am having my kitchen redone (just completed week one of building work) and I am trying to choose my hob. Decided against that utterly gorgeous one simply because I don't want to face the worksurface cutters when it arrives.
I will behave and have a normal square/rectangular one. 😕

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 13/08/2017 10:16

I've seen the cut out one online but it's not for me. I don't want a statement piece, I want it to blend in and be almost invisible if possible.

Pale grey induction sounds interesting. I don't want something too harsh a contrast if possible.

I love the pale grey- thought you could only get black until I saw it on display in John Lewis.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 13/08/2017 11:29

Can you post a photo without it being terribly outing?

I'd love to see it :)

I am a little worried it will date but I'm thinking if it's not everywhere it shouldn't??

Not until next week I'm afraid! If you google images of Siemens stainless steel induction hob you may find pics

QuitMoaning · 13/08/2017 15:38

My aunt has the pale grey Siemens one and she loves it.
Her work tops are wooden though.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 13/08/2017 17:13

Oh I've been Googling Grin I just can't find many photos showing them in situ. Lots of the same pics on Pinterest etc.

I wonder why the pale grey ones are ok but not the white ones? Or maybe it's hit and miss depending on brand?

I don't even dare mention extractors yet. I think my tiny mind might implode!
