Living room at front of house everyone looks in

We have a very large low window in our living room. People can't help it but they look in when they walk past. I love natural daylight so I'm not keen on blinds/net curtains etc.

We are having some work done on the house soon, should we think about changing the window into a higher one? I could literally step out of it outside at the moment if that makes sense. It might stop us feeling like we are on view.

Shutters are very popular where I live but our landlord used the opaque film. I rather like it, no one can see in, I don't look out (I got really distracted in our last flat by people walking past) and I have no net curtains to clean.

Bottom up blinds? May be cheaper than resizing the window space

I bought three small tension rods from Dunelm and had individual metre pieces of plain net/ voile off the roll for me. It comes already hemmed to thread the rods through.

My window has six panes - 3 long ones at the bottom and 3 small at the top. I have the tension rods across the three bottom panes and keep the top ones clear.

It allows tons of light into the room, I can see out perfectly but you can't see in from the street or even standing directly outside the window, I've checked Grin
As soon as it's dark enough to put a lamp on I draw the curtains as it becomes a goldfish bowl when backlit!

I know nets get a bad rep but I honestly don't feel mine are grannyish. It's quite a modern room and they don't look fussy.

Altogether this fix cost about £10 Grin

I much prefer the upper panes (or upper part of the window) being left clear. Neighbours have all kinds of venetian blinds, roller blinds, film and dodgy dated nets and none of them look as nice imo as they cover the whole window including the upper panes.

Blinds that go from the bottom up would be my next choice.

*cut off the roll

The room is north-west facing and never feels gloomy either.

We have a large bay window and almost everyone in the street has shutters (if they're under 50) or nets. We have neither.

We have a huge tub with a 6' x 6' photinia which stands about 2 feet in front of the window. Lovely all-year foliage which blows gently but allows maximum light. Great screening!
