Wickes kitchen quote

Just been to see "my vision turned into a plan" and get a quote at Wickes, 7k!!! For a perfectly lovely but very basic and small kitchen. No fancy gadgets or wow features.

This is with the 50% off then 15% more off or whatever offer they have on at the moment - they can only hold the price until Saturday etc etc.

Am I completely naive as to the cost of things, or are Wickes hugely overpriced?
I got the designer to print a full list of components needed, in the hope I can find them at a much more reasonable rate elsewhere. I'm completely Hmm, I honestly thought it would be about 3k. Wise Mumsnetters, what's my next move?

I was quoted £17k (no fitting) after 50%+ 15% ! ....original would have been £29k I think it was ...crazy ..their quartz price was £6500 and I got mine in the end from unistone for less than that .....and remember they come flat packed !!

wowfudge · 08/08/2017 14:58

Take your list and send it to the quotes team at DIY Kitchens. They should be able to give you a quote for the most similar of their kitchens so you compare the price. You'll have to add delivery - it's on their website. They don't do fitting so you'll have to find your own fitter.

Do you know anyone with a trade account for Howdens? We had our new kitchen from them and the price was amazing for what we have and definitely do not buy granite/quartz from them - always go to an independent stone supplier - you'll get a far better price and service.

BG2015 · 08/08/2017 15:24

My kitchen was £6k in Wickes, no fancy gadgets but Zanussi appliances. I suppose it depends on what type you go for. Was that for fitting too?

Thanks everyone, I'm glad to know there is hope, I was starting to catastrophise and think I'd never get a new kitchen! I'll look into both DIY Kitchens and Howdens, I'm hoping to shave at least 25% off the price.

That's a lovely kitchen BG, mine has less than half the units though! And laminate worktop, about 6 cabinets and an oven, dishwasher and hob. 7k just seems way too much

We just bought the units from Wickes and they were well worth the money. However they wanted ridiculous amounts for appliances and worktops so we bought elsewhere. We managed to haggle an extra £500 off from Wickes so might be worth a try!

rainsbow · 09/08/2017 10:32

B&q have quoted me £24k ShockShock

Ramona75 · 09/08/2017 13:41

I agree with wowfudge, give diy kitchens a try. All their prices are on their website as well, so you’ll probably be able to compare the list of compoants that you got from wickes.

BG2015 · 09/08/2017 14:18

What style of kitchen is it from Wickes?

PigletJohn · 09/08/2017 17:08

don't buy appliances from kitchen companies.

nor taps or sinks.

thetinyone · 09/08/2017 17:10

Try Howdens!

thetinyone · 09/08/2017 17:10

BG your kitchen is beautiful and v similar to mine.

Pigofwar · 09/08/2017 17:13

Watching with interest as the Wickes man came round yesterday to measure up for their Milton range. Was hoping it would come in at around £6/£7k...

Sorry for late reply. It's the Tiverton range I looked at.

Miaow I'm the same as you with a tiny kitchen, that's the reason I got a planner out, to try to maximise the space. I'd love to sit for hours with graph paper and cut ous planning a huge kitchen I'm a bit nerdy Smile.

It's the first kitchen I've bought and I think I was lulled into a false sense of economy when you go in and see a kitchen laid out and a big sign saying "All these units for £2500", I hadn't realised it's the end panels, oven tower etc that double the price. Better keep saving for a while.

Seriously OP - contact DIY Kitchens. It will be a fraction of the cost you've been quoted by Wickes. Incidentally, the Tiverton kitchen is probably one of Wickes' most expensive as it has wooden rather than MDF doors. DIY's Norton or Linwood kitchens would be the equivalent. Take a trip to their showroom if possible. The quality is excellent and there is no hard sell, pricing is transparent. They have 10% off cabinets sales a couple of times a year too.

Our units were from Howdens and came in at 3k. We have quartz worktop from an independent company which were 2.2k. The only appliance from Howdens was the dishwasher and only because they priced it at 1p for some bizarre reason Confused

Find a travis Perkins which does Benchmarx kitchens - they are (or were) identical to wickes

Shadowboy · 10/08/2017 11:44

Ours was £6k but then we paid a carpenter £1k on top to do the wood worktop and then a further £900 for the range - ours was from Wren. Shaker range with solid oak tops and Belfast sink and integrated dishwasher. Huge island so I was plead with the total cost of £8k
