Need to hang a bathroom cabinet - so confused!

Help me please, the fixings are quite different from our previous cabinet and watching YouTube videos hasn't helped much and the instructions are rubbish!
Our new cabinet has two plates to fix onto wall as per 2nd photo. According to instructions the fixings aren't included. Then the brackets (1st photo) on the back of the cabinet fit over the wall plates. So far so good I think. What happens after that -it doesn't seem secure enough! Also I'm not sure what the 4 screws or the other 4 hinges are for - there are a load more fixings for the doors! Plus tons of plastic caps! Would be most grateful if someone could point me in the right direction Grin

Plastic caps are to cover screw heads.
Plastic dots are to stop the door banging.
Can't work out the other fixings, but suggest you open the door fixings, sort by type and take it from there.

Okay ignore the hinges.

Don't the plates screw into the back of the cabinet?

And those then hook over screws that you put into the wall with the help of the rawlplugs?

SerfTerf · 08/08/2017 10:44

Actually those plates look as though should have been attached to the cabinet by incorporating them into the joints either side when you put it together.

QueenofBlah · 08/08/2017 10:58

Thanks but the instructions seem to say that you fix the plates to the wall then hang the bracket which is attached to the back of the cabinet over them. I've attached the instructions- not sure if they are visible! I didn't put the cabinet together or attach the bracket at the back - it came like that.

Okay. I can't see the instructions but the only way I can see that working with those plates is if the lip of the plate then hooks under some kind of rim on the back of the cabinet. Probably at the top.

Maybe try slotting the un-perforated part of the plate into the back of the cabinet to see if that would work somehow?

the two rectangular plates, with three oval holes, are screwed to the wall, with the protruding edge upwards and facing out. This gives a sort of hook that the fixings on the back of the cabinet (facing down) hook on to. It is possible to buy hanging strip in longer lengths if you need to spread the load or if there is no stud in the right place.

I have not seen that kind of hanger before.

When they say "fixings not supplied" they mean the screws. You will need screws appropriate to what your wall is made of. For example if it is plastered block, you will need 4mm screws about 35mm long, so they pass through the plaster and grip into the plasplugs you have tapped into holes drilled in the wall.

If it is plasterboard fixed to studs, you should preferably locate the studs and screw into them.

BTW, if a bathroom cabinet or shelf is put above a washbasin, sooner or later a glass jar or bottle will fall into the basin and crack it.

PigletJohns law of sinks Smile

p.s. that sort of hanging strip is usually supplied with an adhustable hanger like this

the instructions referring to adjusting screws are typical for that sort of hanger.

they are usually fitted to the sides of the cabinet, at the top, on the inside, with the hooks poking through the back. Have you got any?

QueenofBlah · 08/08/2017 14:29

Hi piglet John, yes the hangers are adjustable on the inside. So is that all I need to do - fix the hangers to the wall, hook the bracket on the back of the cupboard over it and then adjust from the inside if necessary? That doesn't seem very secure!
It's also a bit confusing why they've supplied it with four long screws!
Thanks though for everyone's responses and yes it is going over a sink so it will be plastic bottles and jars only Grin

"fix the hangers to the wall, hook the bracket on the back of the cupboard over it and then adjust from the inside if necessary?"

yep.

the hooks prevent it falling off, and when tightened to the wall, it won't slide or lift off until you loosen the hangers.

same thing is used for kitchen wall cabinets. the long hanging strip is very useful for them, as it can be screwed more strongly, and also aligns the heights of a row of cabs.

A joiner !!!!

QueenofBlah · 09/08/2017 07:52

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to attempt it later! I'm still not sure what the 4 screws are for - maybe it will become apparent!
