Advice on utility v shower room v utility/shower room

Hi everyone

We are looking to extend out 1950s 3 bed semi. Changing garage to downstairs room, building behind garage to create a utility and downstairs shower room and then building behind existing kitchen/dining room to create open plan kitchen/diner.

We may have an issue borrowing as much as we need to do all this work, so now thinking of scaling back a little. This would mean still converting garage, and building behind garage (but just one room not two) still opening up existing kitchen/diner (but not extending by building on back).

My question is do any of you have experience/strong views on utility versus downstairs loo/shower room, or a hybrid of the two? And what are the regs we would need to consider if we do have washing machine etc. in the shower room? Thanks in advance for any help/advice

We have a hybrid - it's actually our main upstairs bathroom which we also have our washing machine and dryer in.

Ours are in a built in cabinet (under the sink, which is a countertop style) which doesn't look kitchen-y, you would never know they were there. The machines are connected to a fused circuit (switch is outside the room, no plugs in the room) and are about 2m away from our bath. Apart from that, no issues at all. The setup works very well for us tbh.

We have a lootility and it works really well. It gives us the important second toilet and washing space. Tbh that toilet isn't used often and I designed it so it's behind a door so quite discrete

Sounds like we have something very similar. Took a bit of the garage and created a utility room with a bath in it (and overhead shower). We only have a shower room upstairs.

Had to have washing machine and tumble drier behind lockable cupboard doors (for electrical safety reasons).

It's a great room. I actually haven't had a bath but it is used for so much. We put a rail above the bath too so it's used in winter for hanging laundry.
