Do you add 'accidental damage' to your home insurance?

I'm buying my first house and have never had hone insurance before. Is there any point to having accidental damage covered? Everything we own us second hand and not high value items. I'm getting general hone and contents insurance but not sure what to add as extras. How about legal costs and emergency accommodation cover?

Look at the excess for accidental damage and think if you have many items it would be worth insuring taking into account you'll have to pay that to get them replaced. I've never added it to my cover.

We did! It was worth it when DH strimmed the front garden and a stone cracked the window!

Yes

My son boiled the kettle dry on our induction hob and it cracked the hob. £1000 to replace and not only that the insurance company sent someone out with the replacement hob to replace it within 2 days.

My friend had a biro leak over her new sofa and got a replacement.

Another friend spilt paint on her carpet which would not come out and not only was it replaced but so were the hall stairs and landing as they were all matching and the carpet was no longer available.

Definitely worth the small amount extra.

Most claims are for accidental damage (I understand) rather than theft.

I stood on my laptop which dp had helpfully left on the floor whilst I was carrying laundry and couldn't see my feet. I had to pay £100 excess but could get it fixed for £99 so didn't use insurance as it would put my premium up.
