Plumbing/heating help for an idiot!

I need someone to talk to me in simple terms about boilers/central heating. We are looking at taking on a complete renovation project which will need new heating. We did this in our current house and went for a combi boiler which has been fine.

However, we'd love to retain the airing cupboard in the potential purchase. Presumably for this to be an airing cupboard rather than a bog standard cupboard it needs a hot water tank or something, so that rules out a combi? I am a shift worker so there is no set routine to when we use hot water for showers etc.

This is probably incredibly basic, but I'd appreciate any help! What do I want that means I can have hot water on demand but also an airing cupboard? And while we're on the subject, what do I need to get good water pressure and flow in the shower? Our current one is pathetic - the whole (60s) estate is like it. You can only run one tap at a time, essentially.

Just to add to this. Currently the boiler is downstairs in the kitchen, the airing cupboard upstairs. There isn't any loft space to speak of so we also need to think about where things go.

How big is your house and your household?

Currently 3 bed, we will probably extend to 4 which will mean 2 x bathrooms, 1 completely newly created. Only us 2 at the moment.

You can buy heaters designed for airing cupboards.
