We bought a house last December. It's our first home. We went on holidays, came back and there was a tiny bit of water dripping down on a corner in the bathroom. It dried fairly quickly so I thought maybe it was condensation as dh had just had a shower (wishful thinking). Today it's raining so I went and had a look and it's there again. We replaced the ridge tiles on the roof a couple of months ago but can't afford to replace the whole roof. The wc on the other side of the wall is fine. It puzzles me that the water is not on an exterior wall. The exterior wall is the one with the window. There's an alcove on the other wall hence the weird shape. Any ideas?

Have you been up in the loft for any clue as to where the problem is?

RatRolyPoly · 01/08/2017 15:19

Leaky water pipe? Although the fact it happens when it rains definitely suggests more hole in the roof... I second getting up in the loft!

We've never been up there and don't even own a ladder. Do you think it'll be a fortune to get a damp specialist over? We really can't afford much at the moment. It was fine all winter but I suppose we had the heating on then...

It could be just one or two tiles slipped or cracked, so not a major job.
Can you get a ladder delivered, perhaps from Screwfix, they do next day delivery IIRC?

RatRolyPoly · 01/08/2017 15:35

Yeah, it would be cheaper to get a ladder than to call a damp specialist who will only try and get you to buy whatever it is they do regardless of what the problem is. Get a ladder, get up there and you might find it's something really simple that a bit of PTFE tape can fix.

Get a work light or a heavy duty torch too if you don't already have one.

I'll get dh to do it - I'm quite tired of doing everything myself. Spent hours on the phone with the insurance company today, now this. Thanks for the help.
