Hello, I am looking for a 3 bed house in Bromley. Have a 4 YO Son, that will need to go to school. I would really appreciate help on the best areas, and the best schools. Thanks.

Turquoise- if you've been, you've probably got it right Grin rather not upset anyone who lives in any particular part. It's a great town regardless of whether or not you are in a vair posh part - my point was to the OP is that the catchment for the good schools is tight and £500k doesn't go far!

It might be worth looking into Shirley, you get slightly more for your money as it's the Croydon Borough, but can get into the Beckenham Primary and Secondary schools if you are close to the Beckenham border.

From there you have the option of using the Hayes train line or going into Croydon for trains.

Hello all, first of all thanks to everyone for the response. After reading all the comments and looking at the housing market I am more inclined to look at Chislehurst, locks bottom, and Farnborough. Pls let me know your thoughts and share your views. Thanks.

Parts of Chislehurst are lovely, parts are rather too close to less salubrious areas for comfort or a big schelp to the station. Also bear in mind from Chislehurst or Elmstead Woods you have no direct trains to Victoria. Good luck with the viewing.

Hi I did reply to your comment, but it was after a comment about Chislehurst and in the same comment I said "That property onaseem seems lovely, a trek from Crofton to either PW or Orp but that is you main compromise, bear in mind they are building loads of houses next door to Darrick so catchment may change and also the quality of the school." Hope that helps.

Hello pettswoodparadise I didn't realise. Checked it again. Actually I did look at houses near the school within 0.5 miles. It is the locksbottom area which I like. I think I will view a few houses there n see. Thanks. If u come across something do let me know.

On a separate note, is Newstead mixed school or girls only. Thanks.

Hello scrivette thanks for the note. I don't want to go into Croydon unless I really need to.

Newstead is girls only (reason DD loves it) until sixth form when it becomes mixed. They do a few things like discos and events with St Olaves but not a huge amount. Many grammars in the area are single sex, Chis n Sid is one of the few that isn't. Locksbottom is lovely but you'd need a bus to get to a rail station.m and they are always digging up the road between Sainsbury's and Orpington (I exaggerate not!). Also no easy routes to grammars other than the Orpington ones and no simple routes to the independents. Do go on days when the wind is in different directions and when the weather is different for two reasons, the aircraft come in low from Biggin Hill and also the noise from A21 which on most days is not discernible but on some days depending on the direction of the wind is quite intrusive. I know this as have friends at my flight club who live in the area. Grin

So which area in ur opinion would be the best of all from school to convenience perspective

onaseem · 05/08/2017 19:36

I have kept biggin hill as the last option considering that the schools aren't the best and the transport links are also not good

I'll PM you as I am preventing others giving you advice too.

Thanks for the note. Let's see how it goes. I heard the market has slowed down qutie a lot so may be able to get it at a discount.
