100% wool carpets with dogs?

Hi,
My wife and I need to buy carpets for our living room and downstairs study. We don't have children but do have two lovely border collies. We visited a carpet store today and got a quote for a 100% wool Berber style carpet as we liked the look of it and they had a decent deal on. We were initially going to look for an 80/20 mix, or even a polypropylene one which I hear is bombproof, but preferred the look of the 100% wool one. What are people's thoughts on 100% wool? We're very indecisive people, and like to know the pros and cons before committing to a purchase. A chap from the store is coming to measure up tomorrow morning so be handy if we could be nearer to making our minds up. Before anyone makes the point, we're from Durham and don't seem to have a moth problem and besides, the manufacturer of the carpet says it's moth proof anyway (see attached picture). So yeah, just looking for some wise words on whether a 100% carpet is suitable for a dogs with muddy paws household?!

We have a carpet similar to this. My only concern with pets is their claws catching and plucking the carpet. We were also advised to use a vacuum cleaner without a rotating brush for the same reason.

A good quality wool carpet will stand up to periodic shampooing in case of dog smell. Otherwise (we have a BC too) you will want the mother of all vacuum cleaners to deal with hair!

Do your dogs come straight into carpet, don't you have a porch or towel to dry their feet?

Ime a short dense pile carpet wears better than a berber. Once a loop is pulled you've had it. But there again in a study a deep carpet can be a PITA with office chairs.

I have the manx natural shades one in nimbus and have a dog. It looks just like that but is a mix. 80:20 I think. It recovered from a hideous dog vomiting episode in June thanks to a rugdoctor. So I'd say get a mix. .look at the manx ones.

Come into a hallway (which is LVT) which precedes the living room so there is a buffer zone!

Carpets hold on to dog smell and hair. The previous owners of our house had two terriers and the smell never left till we skipped the carpet. We have a lab and hard floors. No problem.

We have a 100 % wool Axminster in our living room that is 20 years old! Over the years we've had dogs and cats and our house doesn't smell! Definitely do not get a looped Berber, but a cut pile and a really good quality underlay. Our carpet has been taken up and put back down at least 3 times to date and is just about to go back down again after the decorators finish. We got the carpet shop to check it was still ok and we're to,d that's the benefit of a quality wool carpet. After it's been refitted we will get it cleaned - we're so happy with it, it was well worth what we paid for it.
