Grey carpets, white walls/wood. What colour saddle?

We picked up the keys to our first family home on Friday. Yay!!

Painters are in and carpet is ordered for end of next week.

The window frames are dark wood, a grey carpet is going down in the bedrooms, landing and stairs. All walls and woodwork will be Dulux Timeless.

Would you paint the saddle boards in the doorways the same colour? Or is there another option I should be considering?

Hit a bit of a wall already making decisions and need a bit of inspiration!!

Thanks in advance.

Would aluminium work with the grey.
What does the carpet supplier/fitter recommend.

The saddle is made of wood. Photo attached.

I was planning to paint it Timeless for wood, but wondered if it would get scruffy.

If I kept it a dark wood colour, would it look ok against the grey carpet and white walls/skirtings/doors?

We had grey carpet and white walls decorated last year, we had the saddle boards painted white to match other woodwork. They look good and don't get dirty!

We have the same wide wood strips in our home. They are painted the same as the windows, in a dark wood colour. It works well.

I'd paint them to match the woodwork, especially if you don't have any other dark wood in the rooms (furniture etc).

They shouldn't get dirty unless people walk across them in outside shoes - and even if they do, they're easy enough to repaint.

Sorry, missed that the window frames are dark wood! In that case I think either would look ok. I'd be inclined to paint as the eye will be drawn to the dark spot in an otherwise light floor, but it could look good either way.

Thank you all. Think I'll go with the light colour.

Please can I be nosy and ask does the timeless have much of a cream hint to it? I really fancy using this in my lounge.

NC4now · 29/07/2017 13:57

Is saddle the skirting board?

NC4now · 29/07/2017 13:58

Oh, I think I know what it is.
White gloss to match the skirting board (or whatever your skirting boards are)

Doesn't seem to have any cream in it, but it's going up this week, so I'll soon find out. The house is magnolia at the moment, so I'm expecting it to be brighter than that!

The saddle is a wooden piece which lies between two rooms, on the floor, at the door

We have timeless in our hall, kitchen and conservatory. It isn't cream, it seems colder almost a green undertone. We have another dulux colour in our dining room, which is much warmer. I'm going to get the decorators to go over the timeless as I don't like it at all - too cold.

FrogFairy · 31/07/2017 00:25

Thanks bouncy, not fancying a green tinge at all.

My lounge is dark and cave-like so I was hoping to brighten it with a very pale cream paint. Back to the drawing board it is then.
