Best place to live in the UK

Where is the best place to live in the UK in your opinion and why? I am looking to move and have been searching for some time without success so thinking about looking in a new area. It's doing my head in. I want to live a rural/semi rural life but reasonably close to good transport links and culture. Friendly people. a decent airport within a couple of hours, good community. Half of me wants to live in a rural community with great views etc, but the other half does not want to travel too far for a culture fix/shops/airport/train station etc. I work from home. Perhaps I'm asking far too much.

Gullane is also lovely (but dear). Pentlandite villages are well connected on public transport so worth a gander. Pls come to the Edinburgh meet up when/if you get here. Would be lovely to meet you!

Thank you ! Would love to live in Gullane. i saw a house in Aberlady which had views to die for, but far too small. Prices are ludicrous as you know and go for silly money over the asking price. That's the problem really.

Where about do you live at the moment? How far are you willing to go?

OP re public transport in East Lothian - we managed for 15 years in Haddington without a car, prob a bit cheaper than Gullane/ Aberlady etc.
