How much to move a wall upstairs?

I would like to move part of the wall between the master bedroom and the second bedroom as there is a little set back bit in the master room which isn't utilised which would make the second bedroom a nicer size.

Roughly how much would this cost please?

We were quoted £1,500 to move wall & make good. Didn't include replacing carpet in smaller bedroom.

Is it a load bearing / structural wall?

WhichJob · 18/07/2017 13:35

Sky, I don't think so but we would presumably get that checked out first.

Thanks thisgirl, DH reckons he could do it himself which we would need to try if it is going to cost around £1.5k.

When I read the title I thought you wanted to move a wall to upstairs (from downstairs)Hmm
Anyway as pp it depends wholly on whether it's a stud wall, masonry, and whether it's structural. Also whether your ceiling is old as disturbing old ceilings is a bad idea.

We don't think it is a supporting wall, but it is probably masonry. It is an eighties house so the ceiling is 30 plus years old.

& you need to think about electrics inside the wall, skirting boards/coving, making good the wall & the ceiling where you removed it plus flooring

Also there might be a good reason it was that shape in the first place

WhichJob · 18/07/2017 20:59

I think originally it might have been built in wardrobes but I can't be sure.

What is directly underneath it downstairs?

It's probably a good idea to look at what is directly above it in the loft too
