Leak in shared water supply

We have a leak in the shared water supply to a semi that we own half of, and both property owners are responsible for getting it fixed. The leak is actually on the other property, which is owned by a housing association. They're ignoring my letting agent so I've decided to try them myself, but can they legally ignore it and hope we just fix it?

Ugh nightmare.

No advice but if you DO manage to resolve it please can you let me know how? My other half is a HO and we also have a shared water supply and i've been dreading something like this happening.

Is the landlord aware? Make sure he/she is as even if it's next door, it could become worse and affect your house. In the landlord's position I'd be giving them a deadline to respond by and threatening legal action if they don't act.

Ok, I've spoken to the HA and they tried to pin it on us as we had some work done on our driveway (fixing a previous water leak!).

So I phoned Welsh Water and they said that they know the problem is with next door as the guy has been complaining to WW and his HA for four years but they send letters to everyone on the shared supply in case! He said that they are about to escalate things and the HA won't be able to stick us with the bill.

I am very hazy on this but I believe it is an offence to fail to repair a leak and/or the water co can force the homeowner to do it, or charge them for doing it.

Sounds like WW are going to put the screws on them.

I hope the leak is not under or close to the house, as it can cause subsidence by washing away the subsoil and leaving a muddy hole.
