Ipswich advice

I'll be renting in Ipswich from September. I'll probably do a house share as I want to save. I don't want to pay £££ on transport btw so please don't suggest I pick somewhere else (unless just a short cycle is all that's involved!). No car. I'll be working a couple mins from the train station.

Is it a nice place to live? Should I be wary of certain things? Should I avoid certain areas?

Any advice appreciated! Smile

Avoid Nacton. Anything off Felixsowe Road is not too far from town and lots of Victorian rentals available. Rentals off Norwich Road can be be okay too. North of town centre tend to be very nice properties. The thing with Ipswich is there are some lovely areas that border some dodgy areas...it's a real mix of a town.

What about the area around Willoughby Road or Sirdar Road?

No knowledge of those areas but check out local recent crime website if that is important. I loved Ipswich despite the rough areas. Totally cosmopolitan with some fab food outlets. Depends what your priorities are.

I rented a house in Sirdar Road once. The location is great, easy walk to shops and town, Sainsbury's and Lidl just around the corner. Most of the houses there are rented out, some quite dodgy people in some of the houses. Had 2 attempted break ins in the 6 months I was there. Willoughby Road is ok, really close to station and some lovely big flats in some of the houses there. Gippeswyk Road and Avenue are ok, with some lovely big houses just behind the train station.

Peachy peaches, is that two beak ins in the house you rented or in the road? Gosh it sounds awful! I would be scared of leaving a anything valuable if the house you rented got broken into one every three months!

Sadly two attempted break ins at the house I was renting. Both times someone had tried to force the kitchen window open by pushing through a vent then putting their arm through the hole and trying to open the window which was thankfully locked. My landlord refused to do anything about the vent to make it safer so I left as soon as I could.
