2nd floor flat, no lift

So we're thinking about buying a 2nd floor, ie top floor, flat with no lift. It's lovely, purpose-built and it's for dp and I to live in. We're in Berkshire, if that's relevant.

It's possible that we would have to move again in 2-3 years and I'm just a bit anxious that the lack of a lift would put people off when we come to sell it. The flipside to that is that the maintenance charge is much lower as a result.

Would the lack of a lift put you off, or does anyone have any experience of a similar situation?

TIA

2nd floor?! That's nothing!

Maybe I've got a warped view because I live in a city full of tenements but having a lift in a normal sized block is rare.

It wouldn't put me off but will be a PITA for anyone with a small baby, or who isn't particularly mobile, and for moving furniture. If it is in a commuter area those might be less of a problem. There may be other features, like parking, balcony, view, proximity to amenities & public transport that might make it more desirable.

I would not expect a lift unless the block was above 4 floors!!

I rejected a 2nd floor flat because of my old mother in law unable to climb. So it depends on if you have old or disabled friends/family who visit you to consider. Also baby buggy to carry will be a pain. One baby is still ok but if you have 2 I have seen my friend struggle.

When I was looking for a flat (to rent) I was all like "don't need a lift".

Ended up renting a 2nd floor flat (as in 0, 1, 2) that did have a lift and it was invaluable. Moving in and out, getting deliveries, super market shops, going camping, getting bikes up and down etc

In day to day life I took the stairs always, but for all that stuff it was sooooooo good having a lift.

Thanks for the replies. So some doubts then, which might limit the potential market.

We had a third floor flat with no lift. The ground floor flat went up for sale a week after us and sold in 10 days, ours took 12 weeks. Had 7 viewers. Viewer 1 stated stairs put him off, viewers 2 couldn't raise money, viewer 3 time waster, viewers 4 bought ground floor, viewer 5 time waster, viewer 6 stated loved flat but stairs put her off, viewer 7 a young single able bodied guy bought it.
