Rear extension - always end up with a darker inner room?

I'd like to extend to the rear, but worried about the current back reception room being too dark. Not wanting to knock through between the kitchen and then reception room.
Will this always result in a darker inner room? Even with velux windows, glass doors etc?
This reception room will be mostly used for watching TV etc, so probably won't be used much during the day anyway and in the evening just put lights on, so even if it's darker, is that still a problem?
Anyone extended like this?

TIA!

Just to say, that the back reception room will be incooperated into the new extension (new dining bit). Currently it's a large back window which we will take the bottom out of, but no knocked through to kitchen.

Hiya. We built a 4m extension on back of our house. 5 panel bifold doors and three velux's. Loads of light but old dining room (which is open plan onto extension is dark in comparison. We use it for snug, TV room, gaming so works for us.

In the middle of 5m extension with 2.4 m bifolds and 3 velux giving us new TV/family room (4.5 m) with kitchen in the 5m extension so thought we would be dark but it really is fine and lovely and bright in new build ...front room is next door and has glass doors dividing the two ..these will have curtains permanently up as this will be my son's bedroom ..so was worried for that reason alone it would be dark .When he leaves home Grin curtains will come down and brighter still ..

Yes, I think it's somewhat inevitable, but it doesn't matter in my house because the kitchen (back) is light in the morning and the front is light in the afternoon/evening.

Planning on making it into a snug area with the fishtank and a small desk

Thanks for your replies.
We are west facing at the back with lots of light after midday. Don't want to ruin a perfectly nice back reception room by plunging it into darkness. But this room will be used mainly in the evenings to watch TV etc, so I'm thinking that it might not matter. The rear extension is only a 3m extension and I'm hoping that with the addition of a few velux windows it'll be OK and it'll probably we worth it to have a light and bright dining space in the new extension.

We couldn't think of a way round this so we're turning the back reception into a utility room + loo (2/3) and a nice deep pantry (1/3). We tried a few different configurations but anything else would have been depressingly dark. It's not finished yet but I can report back in 6-8 weeks hopefully!

Our set up is similar & have built a 4m extension which will house kitchen family dining. We are layering light will have LEDs under the kitchen cabinets, spots everywhere, pendants over the island/dining table & wall lights on the TV wall. Pendants & spots are on dimmers. This gives up options to have task lighting & mood lighting etc when/where needed. Hope this helps!

Yes I think so. We're mid build so difficult to tell how much darker but our back room will be darker I think. It was our lounge but we're swapping with the dining room so not that fussed if it is darker.
