Sliding aluminium doors

Has anyone had any fitted recently/have any recommendations?

I went to Grand Designs with the intention of buying some nice £5k bifolds and saw the slimline sliding doors that cost double that figure - sigh ... Now I've seen them I can't unsee them, IYSWIM.

We've got quotes from companies such as ODC and IDSystems which have come in around £10k and my preference is to go with a bigger company given that it's such a huge amount of money, they're well established etc., come with a guarantee, are less likely to go out of business.

The other companies on my shortlist are less well known but I'm guessing they won't come out much cheaper. Companies such as Culmax, Cantifix, Sunvista, Fineline Aluminium, Slimline Aluminium, Panoramic Doors, Sky Glaze ... so many!

LaParisiennne, may I ask how AVS were?

Freyaren123 · 28/02/2020 11:04

@LaParisiennne how did you get on with Architectural Vision Systems? We have gathered few quotes and theirs seems to be the best by quite a bit so looking for some references before we go for them.

@LaParisiennne AV were used by Sara Mungeam in her corner house project - google it for images. Her projects are fairly spectacular so if she has used them I’d say they’re probably pretty good!

What I quite often do is find tagged photos of manufacturers / suppliers on Instagram to see who else has used them which is useful in the decision making process - if it’s an architect / designer I rate (I’m a designer myself) then I can be pretty sure they’ll be good!

The AVS doors were indeed fitted and there were a few teething problems with the fitting but they do look fantastic and everyone comments on them. The frames are very thin like in the Sara Mungeam picture although ours are much wider and we have two sections not three. Overall I would recommend them but like with all contractors you have to keep chasing them, communication isn't always great. They also had quite long lead times as the doors are made in Spain which I imagine is even worse at the moment.
Definitely pleased we went with them though, they really make the room look amazing.

@LaParisiennne Just realised I misread the post and should have replied to @Freyaren123! 🙃 but thank you so much for sharing, that’s very useful to know as I’m thinking of commissioning them for an upcoming project!

Glad to hear they worked out for you in the end, I bet they look amazing 😊
