Anybody like to give me their thoughts on my Ikea kitchen design?

Would love for your thoughts on my design - it's my first kitchen, for my first home.

I'm a bit constrained by the fact that we can't move the electrics around much (we're in a flat so would need a building warrant) - and there's also a great big fusebox hidden in the double wall cabinet next to the tall oven unit!

The door we're going with is Voxtorp (handleless, white gloss): www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/kitchen-products/cabinet-doors-fronts-panels/voxtorp-door-white-art-40273183/

I sometimes think kitchens look strange with less wall units. Almost like something is missing. Your design looks great. I have a fan - I don't use it but like the look of it being there. I wish I had a bin drawer so my bin was hidden though.

I prefer that design, If you don't use your extractor then you could move the hob and just put in a circulating fan thing and as you have plenty of windows clearing the room with fresh air isn't much of an issue.

I think the hob and oven would be better near the sink and fridge as it will stop you having to cross the kitchen for your work triangle especially when there is through way in the kitchen. Although I'm not a fan of them that would then give you the option of putting in a small breakfast bar...

I feel you have a low oven get a double one - and move it under the job - then imagine you're cooking

Reach for the plates spoons herbs etc - will the cupboards work?

Where the flour? Etc

Think about tea making - does the cupboard have cups tea etc near the sink?

Do you have a dishwasher? Also near the sink?

Plan each cupboard and what it's going to have in it - then picture if it'll work

Thanks for everybody's help; it was so useful to get other people's views and I've ended up with something I would not have thought of myself!

I haven't moved the hob, because I have to have some units on that wall to cover the fusebox, so I'd like to keep the wall units just to one wall if I can - leaves the other one free and empty. It'll keep me active to walk over to the sink anyway! Grin

I think I'm going to use the 80cm drawer as the bin - but will work it out with the Ikea person who's doing a home visit in a few weeks.

GreenTulips - I thought about what you suggested, and whilst I was looking for double ovens, I thought well - I am lucky to have lots of storage space because the smaller internal door actually goes to a small pantry room where (once ripped out and similarly ikea-d at a later date) I'll be able to shove quite a lot of stuff in addition to the washing machine - so I may as well have two undercounter ovens! Marvellous!

That means I can keep the 80cm hob, with deep drawers underneath for plates and pans, with smaller 'hidden' pull-out draweres at the top for cooking utensils. There's also a 20cm pull-out drawer to the left of the hob for spices etc.

Thank you all! Flowers

Have you also thought about wall cupboards that go right up to the ceiling if you have a standard ceiling height? Top shelves useful for rarely used things and no cupboard tops to accumulate greasy dust.

And this is the fusebox that means I have to have at least one wall unit on that wall - so I may as well have them all there. It also means I can't move the hob any further to the right as the fan won't work.

Curses!
