Where should I.buy my bathroom from?

I just went to Bathstore to get my three bathrooms designed and priced. They quoted us £15k!!

Our budget was half of that!

This included 1 main bathroom, 1 ensuite and one cloakroom WC

The prices includes the fitting, tiling and removal of the current bathroom.

Is there anywhere else you would recommend for a cheaper price or a way to do it for cheaper?

This is my first time buying a house and buying new stuff so very new to this Grin

Could you get some quotes from a local builder/ bathroom fitter? They will price up removing your existing bathrooms, installation and tiling and can often get good deals on the sanitaryware etc. You could also shop around for baths/toilets etc online. Also, is there an independent showroom near you? We went to one and with negotiation managed to get all our stuff for cheaper than the cheapest online prices, so don't always assume that online is best value.

Thank you that's really helpful.

I do love to look for bargains so I'll be in my element looking for them!

Surely I must be able to save some money and not spend £15k outrageous!

We've just got our cloakroom furniture from plumb centre, they have some very reasonable ranges. Fitting will be done by our choice of local tradesman who won't be subject to VAT as your bath store fitter will be. However the budget for cloakroom is 4K so 15k not ridiculous for 3 rooms.

Definitely get tradesmen in, a plumber plus a tiler should be able to sort it out.

Then go to Johnson tiles to get your tiles, they are a trade supplier (they supply topps tiles etc) so by cutting out the middle man you get a much better price.

Then just pick the fittings you like. We found independent bathroom companies would offer a discount on rrp. Usually something like 35 - 40% so don't just accept the list price. Alternatively you might be able to get your plumber to order then fittings for you and they get a trade discount.

Great, again some really useful information.

How much should I expect to spend on 3 bathrooms. FYI these aren't large bathrooms by any means and I'm looking to buy mid range.

Labour is your biggest cost, so get some good recommendations. Our guy gets people in to do the tiling/electricity for him so you don't have to liaise with lots of different tradespeople. Price wise really depends as to what they need to do. If it's a bare room and it's just a case of fitting in then it's cheaper then if they have to remove old fittings first. You can also keep costs down by doing some bits yourself like the decorating / rubbish removal.

Are you living in the house? Sometimes you can get a better deal if you are not as they don't need to make sure you have a working loo/sink overnight each day.

I don't think 15k is extortionate for 3 replacement bathrooms but you can definitely get it lower.

Yeah I don't think £15K is too bad tbh. We've spent £14K on the fixtures and fittings alone (excl tiling and any fitting) but that's for 3 bathrooms and a downstairs toilet, and including a steam shower thingie which was expensive, mid to higher end.
