Cost to install a Rayburn

Just had a quote to connect a Rayburn (solid Fuel) for £800. Do you think this sounds steep? Rayburn is already in place. The chimney is pumice lined so shouldn't need a separate liner, but will need the old oil liner removed. All it needs is a double-skinned pipe to connect the Rayburn to the base of the flue and possible a new chimney pot/cowell. So I really don't see where the £800 comes from! Although this will include building regs..Anyone had this sort of thing done recently please and if so how much was it? Thank you!

I don't know if that is a fair price, but, having had a solid fuel rayburn (which I loved), it is very important to make sure that it's properly sealed, and burns properly, or you can have problems (well I did!) with the draw. If they are ensuring it all works as it should, then it is probably about right. Mine was very old and could have killed me, I found out later (CO escaping, and in the days before CO detectors).

Thank for your thoughts Lucisky. The chap who has quoted is a fully qualified HETAS installer so should be fine. I also do have a CO detector but that is a good point!

Have they given you a breakdown of the quote?

Thank you for your response original; it's not broken down as such but the engineer told me verbally that it would be for a double skinned pipe between the Rayburn and flue, removing the old oil liner and possibly new cowell - just can't see £800 there...

My rayburn installation cost
£2000 for the rayburn
£1400 for the building work - excavating a massive inglenook from existing small fireplace and lining the chimney
£500 for the plumbing - connecting it to existing pump / immersion tank, upgrading pipework etc. He also put in an overflow radiator. I thought £500 was steep but everyone told me that was a good price, plumbers can charge anything they like....

Summer yes I think that's it, I struggle to get anyone out round here.
