Karndean Flooring? Pros & Cons please

Karndean flooring is a new "thing" to me. I'm considering it for my kitchen, rather than ceramic tiles. Could anyone with experience of it tell me whether it's good, bad or indifferent please?

Hi there everyone! This thread is a little old now, and any links may be out of date - but once you've read what everyone has to say, you can take a look at Karndean flooring on the John Lewis website. MNHQ.

We have the basic Karndean. It has been down in our high traffic kitchen for 16 years and we have had no problems except that where DH (who is large and hefty) moves his chair around the decorative layer has worn through. However, when means allow, we shall have a different tonal section laid in the dining area, and I will put little sticky felt feet on DH's chair legs!

What is the name of your selection of Karndean flooring you chose in the wood vinyl thank you!

chopc · 23/05/2019 11:54

Does underfloor heating work well with Karndean or Amtico flooring? I heard not 🤔

GreekOddess · 29/05/2019 15:26

I hope so chopc as that's what we are having in our new if we ever get there! In the show home they had kardean and under floor heating and it certainly felt toasty!

chopc · 30/05/2019 04:21

That's good to know

KMR65 · 24/10/2019 14:36

Kaz2200 Im a bit late to the party - that floor is WOW. That is Karndean, honestly it looks like a real wood flooring. I'm sold. Going to find the nearest Showroom now...

Me too!

I can't disagree with the post above more saying Karndean is only average and for average houses. We have nearly every type of hard floor in our house from engineered oak, travertine, marble and encaustic victorian floor tiles. Have been renovating for years and the best floor we have ever laid by far, is Karndean. It can be labour intensive, especially if you go for parquet but it is even better than real wood. Have four dogs in the house too and looks exactly the same as the day it was put in, 7 years later. Oh and I wouldn't describe our house as average, its just been featured on Escape to The Country!

We've just had Karndean Parquet gutted throughout our downstairs and I'm really pleased with it. It's warmer Underfoot than the real wood we had and the fitters did a brilliant job, Took a working week to do the full downstairs.

Karndean Flooring? Pros & Cons please

Gutted = fitted

Has anyone had both Karndean and Amtico (Spacia) and coould help me choose one over the other? It's for a lounge, kitchen, hall and study.

Jaygee56 · 30/04/2024 09:57

We had karndean installed in 2007......skip forward and it's still fabulous!! Looks almost new , any scratches cannot be seen and expect wear and tear with 3 consecutive dogs 3 grandkids and a herd of teens......it was expensive but hey- it's outlasted others' naff carpets and dated ceramic ....and specially the vile outdated laminate(remember that?!). I'd recommend it for sheer choice of design combos and longevity , we had carpet fitted once in one area and just lifted it and karndean still like new ready for second coming...!
