Anyone tried this? Looking for a more kid proof version of F and B. I see Little Greene get good write ups but their colour range is a bit restrictive.

Is Little Green supposed to be any good for kids? (slightly off topic) I know nothing of paint!

ocelot41 · 25/06/2017 08:59

Its had good write ups on MNet before thoughtfox...

I've used wickes onwards brand vinyl emulsion (mat in a kids bedroom and silk in the kitchen). Both have held up really well and wickes have a great range of colours avaiable. Last lot was on a multi buy at £8 for 2.5l cans so it didn't break the bank. They don't have the flashy blurb brochures to go with it but on the wall I don't think you can tell the difference.

Crown scrubbable Matt is your friend here. You can colour match it to a sample of Farrow and Ball. It won't be a perfect match but it won't be far off.

Benjamin Moore is the top rated paint in the US. Knocks F&B into a cocked hat and has a much wider range of colours. Forget most/all the UK paint brands you read about on MN, and try a little. After one room, I bet you are converted.

ocelot41 · 25/06/2017 19:32

Wow OC that's quite a review. Are you in the US? Have you used it yourself? Or tried the new Slough stockist in the UK?

Hi Op I haven't used Benjamin Moore, but heard really good things about it, I don't really rate f&b or littlegreene very expensive for what it is.
The only other expensive paint I really like is a Mylands it's manufactured in London & is really good quality, but the colour range isn't as large as f&b etc.

puffylovett · 25/06/2017 20:14

I like the look of some of the Benjamin Moore shades. Haven't tried them though.
Just hopped on to say that I think little greene will colour match any f&b colour iirc. Expands the range a bit

I've seen loads of lovely Benjamin Moore colours on Pinterest. Where can you buy in UK?

ocelot41 · 25/06/2017 20:55

If you look on the website thethought there is an address in Slough, but they will send out. Its bloody expensive though! That said the decorators reviews are awesome - no fading after 5 years, scrubbable, kid proof....sounds like a F and B but actually works?

It still seems dear though - its 40 bucks for a US gallon (about 3.5l). But in the UK its £60!!!

The other excellent brand from US is Sherwin Williams.

ocelot41 · 25/06/2017 21:18

It was the Regal line I was looking at as it gets such a good write up for really dense pigmentation, but still being pretty much bombproof. But jeez, £60 for a US gallon! Does anyone know if they do trade reductions or sales?

I used to use it when I lived in the US. Here it is expensive, and I don't think it's widely stocked yet but this may change. Rather doubt they do sales, but it might be worth asking about trade prices.

Mylands also make good paint, so I read, though I have only used sample tins to choose colours. So far the patches I've dabbed on the walls are beautifully matte and appear to scrub well. I am not convinced that Sanderson or Little Greene stand much wear if my bathrooms (done eight years ago) are anything to go by, and F&B emulsion requires too many coats to develop any depth of colour for me to bother with it (though the eggshell is okay).
