Does anyone know what sort of drill I should buy my husband? I have no idea what I'm doing or what he needs. I want it to be a surprise.

Or (more likely)

Which would be what he needs to do basic screwing in around the house?

Have you not asked or is it a present? I'm assuming it's something he wants...I'd hate it if my husband got me say a vacuum cleaner for my birthday!

PinkFluffs1 · 23/06/2017 16:10

It's a present. He keeps saying he needs to go down the hardware store and get one. I wouldn't buy him tools if he didn't say he wanted them - I think it implies I expect him to do housework which is a bit crap.

I would be pissed if he fired our cleaners and got me a mop instead.

If you can afford it go with a Makita cordless drill. Disclaimer: I can't use a drill but this is the one every male in my family seems to have and they are all very into DIY. They would also all be thrilled with a drill for their bday! Or any power tool really.

You need to know what he uses more? if he screws more? (sounds odd that) get a driver, can sometimes get a pack with driver and drill.
Makitia, Dewalt cant go wrong.

just seen your link - wish my lady had your thoughts

I'm a chippy. Makita cordless drills every time for me Smile As mentioned above, they aren't the cheapest but are hardy and perform well. When I was an apprentice (some years ago!) and couldn't afford better, I had one of the cheaper more DIY-y models and it still lasted well with heavy everyday use. It just lacked the power and battery life of the pricer models.

I had a (I think) Wickes own brand one quite a while ago and it was fine for light use - my sister has it now and I believe it still works. If you can afford it we also have a Makita, which is really good. If you can manage with the one battery, you can get good deals on additional tools and swap the batteries over. We have the cordless drill (versatile) and the impact driver (absolutely brilliant if you've got jobs that mostly involve driving screws in).

I don't drill, but all the males in the family use Makita, ( or borrow DH's!)
