Is this loads? It's for our loft conversion en suite. 15sqm for the walls and 4sqm for the floor. Seems pricey to me?I've already bought the tiles (£700ish).

Figure out how many hours it would take you to do if you did it yourself - including looking up how to do it, and divide the 900 by that many hours. Does it seem reasonable? Or does it still seem like a rip off? Big tiles are quicker than lots of small tiles.

I've never Tiled anything. This tiler works for himself but also for the loft conversion company I have used.

When I had my bathroom done I was v surprised at how long the tiling took and what a fiddly job it was what with cutting loads of tiles.

Not cheap but it is a time consuming skilled job.

BikeRunSki · 22/06/2017 20:07

Tiling takes forever. I did about 6 square meters in the bathroom of our old house, sbdvit took most of a week. It looks ok, but not brilliant. Getting everything level, cutting the edges and corners etc is very time consuming. And you need to hire a cutter and buy all the grout, edging, grout remover, little square plastic things for keeping the tiles straight. And then there's cleaning up. Did I mention grout remover? It's made for a reason, grout gets everywhere and it's a right pain the clean up, especially getting it out of your hair.

I'd pay the tiler to be honest.

So around £45 to £50 per sq m - not that cheap but not excessive if he is supplying adhesive and grout etc. Big tiles might look easier to put up, but take more planning to minimise wastage and get lined up correctly.

wiltingfast · 22/06/2017 23:22

I just had this done on mates rates and it still cost me €920. I think that's about £880 maybe? Same type of yardage

Now my stupid attic people had plumbed everything IN the bathroom. So it all had to come out so the tiler could tile, and then go back in Shock

Clayhead · 22/06/2017 23:24

It's £50 per square metre for a tiler round here (not London/South East).

SarahBeeney · 23/06/2017 20:01

I have booked him.
He tiled my friend's bathroom and she said he is excellent. Also,I am having porcelain tiles and they are more expensive per sq meter on his price list (there are more expensive ones too).

Porcelain tiles are also harder to cut, will wear out his cutting blade quicker (about £100 for a good blade), chip easily when cutting, and if they are large tiles lots of problems arise from your existing walls being plumb and flat. This causes problems when doing brickwork style tiling especially as getting all the tiles perfectly flat gets tricky.

Its not an extortionate price, I'm cheaper at the moment but I'm going to hike my prices up soon due to demand. :)

Thanks Jake

£50 PSM is what MFI were charging 10 years ago. Can't remember how much we paid but it wasn't cheap and a bad tiler is not worth it.

wheresmyphone · 24/06/2017 11:32

I have just been told 60 a sq metre including grout. Tiling is one of those things it's worth getting done professionally unless you are good at it.
