Kitchen corner arrangement

Hi all,

looking for some advice (and photos) on how people have tackled the corner in their kitchen as regards cabinets and layout. We are converting a dining room with added extension into kitchen/dining/living and I am struggling with the layout of the kitchen area.
Basically it will be a L shape with hob on island and sink on back wall. No windows on the L. We are struggling with how to return the units along the L without going for a return in the bench IYSWIM. We like the idea of running one leg of the L onto the bench of the other leg of the L. I will see if I can upload a diagram. TIA for any advice!

Sorry do you mean you don't want the work surface on the return? Are you looking to just have full height units on the shorter wall?

Yes Yorkshire. We are looking at a 600 larder unit, 600 oven and micro and 600 integrated ff. The short wall is 3800 in length and will also have door (900mm) and kitchen bench (600mm) from the far side. All in that leaves 500mm spare wall between the end of the units and the door. I think by having a return on the bench it would either be a tiddly one or it would push the units too close to the door. We are trying to work in wall units on the long side as with no extractor, window etc it will look very bare.

Whoops, realise I didn't actually answer your question. Yes, looking at tall units on short wall with a view to joining them into wall units on the long wall.

Aha houzz that's pretty much what we had in mind although as we don't have a window, will carry the wall units all along the long wall. Can't tell exactly from the picture but the wall unit at the end of the long run - is that level with the tall units and is there therefore a void behind? We were also thinking of trying to somehow enclose below that unit with maybe a door or short tambour unit so that things like the toaster/coffee stuff can be pushed to the end and door/shutter shut. Any thoughts?

We often design them with a shutter /appliance garage brought forward at the corner to be inline with the tall cabinets - if designing with a wall corner we either do it set forward too ( often with a freestanding microwave under ) or set back ( if the client is tall ) if you are petite you may want to set things forward.

tracyc23 · 20/06/2017 21:01

Thank you, that is very helpful. If you are using standard 300mm deep wall units do you have a void behind the one in line with the tall units and if so how do you go about attaching to the wall? We are planning on doing the work ourselves but this is the only bit I can't get my head around.

It's either attached to the wall one side and attached to a faux wall and the tall unit the other side - or its attached to the wall and tall unit and filled in underneath at the back .

I'm so pleased to see this as we are designing our utility room and there will be a run of worktops and then on the next wall a fridge freezer. Is the thing to keep the worktops going into the corner?

Millybingbong · 21/06/2017 06:46

This is very helpful. We are planning our utility room and there is going to be quite run of worktops into a corner and then not the next wall a fridge freezer.

Is the done thing a run of worktops in to a corner?

Thanks, that's very helpful. Now to research appliance garages Grin

Have you looked at tambour units milly. That is what we were considering but a full bench height one was difficult for us as we wanted wall units to meet up with it. The glass electric ones are fab but very expensive!
