Moving electricity meter

Do you have any tips?
I was told that this is a complete faff - to the extent that an architect told me not to even bother to try and get the electricity board to do it as they would never turn up.
Is this true? Someone else told me there were companies that did it on the architects behalf (chased the electricity board).
Any advice

Yes, complete faff. Electricity company moves the meter, but your supplier has to connect it to the incoming electricity cable. Coordinating the two different companies to arrive on the same day within a few hours of each other seems inordinately difficult.

We had it done recently. It cost around £1000 but it wasn't too much bother. You have to go through UK Power Networks. Contact them and they'll send you a form, they then give you and estimate and send someone over to do a survey. The surveyor will tell you what you need to do. We had to get an electrician to give us an electrical certificate saying the house was safe. The electrician also had to put in some wires and drill a hole in the wall because we were moving it outside (it would be sensible to book an electrician for the actual day although we didn't know this and it was fine). We didn't need our supplier to do anything. They did everything on the day which wasn't actually much for the amount we paid!
