Neptune kitchens

Has anyone had a Neptune kitchen fitted? I'm trying to get an idea of how they compare to other kitchen companies- in quality and price. Other companies we are looking at include John Lewis of Hungerford and Humphrey Munson, amongst others. Were you pleased with Neptune? Thanks in advance.

Sorry I haven't got a Neptune one (it is my dream kitchen but out of my price range) but I know someone who has one and it is great quality.

However I did try to copy the style of one of theirs (down to handles) and used Neptune shingle paint on the walls. I'll pm a picture!

Can't pm pics so here goes!

Lovely kitchen allthebest. where are your units from?

LilaGrace · 18/06/2017 20:27

Allthebest that's an amazing kitchen. Do you mind if I ask what it cost compared to what a Neptune kitchen of the same size would have cost?

We had a Neptune kitchen fitted 4 years ago. I don't think it was a cheap option, but it has been really good quality. 4 years in, and it looks pretty much good as new, all drawers and doors etc still perfect, and I still love it. Can't comment on whether we could have got the same quality more cheaply and don't really want to find out at this stage!

Tatlerer · 19/06/2017 08:43

I don't think their showrooms do them any favours. We looked at the kitchens in the Blackheath showroom (this was about a year ago) and they were looking worn, marked and tired. I also didn't like the way the doors were painted (e.g. Obvious painted brush-strokes).

Sunnyshores · 19/06/2017 14:47

Posters on here seem to complain alot about Neptune (Kitstone) quality and after service. There are lots of threads.

However, we had one fitted from the Marlborough branch and they were great, it all arrived on time, the fitter was amazing (he made several custom made bits). We only lived with it for a year before moving, but it still looked amazing.

They were cheaper than the JL option we liked and Hand Made kicthens. I thought the quality was much the same. I would have preferred a slightly different colour to the standard, but it wasnt worth the extra £. If I could have afforded it I would have chosen Devol.

How much was your kitchen Sunny if you don't mind my asking?

Agoddessonamountaintop · 19/06/2017 14:56

Sunny do you mean Handmade Kitchens in Christchurch?

Sunnyshores · 19/06/2017 16:06

Goddess - yes. www.handmadekitchens-direct.co.uk/

OP - it was £11000 inc quite difficult and pricey fitting and customisation as G2 house and wonky walls, floors and ceilings.

So probably £8500 without fitting. That was cabinets only, no appliances or worktops (£3000 about half price from mistermarble.co.uk/).

LilaGrace · 19/06/2017 16:11

Sunny- your kitchen was only £8500 from Neptune? Was that a long while ago? The cheapest now seem to start from about £12,000 and that is for the smallest kitchen.

OP posts:
LilaGrace · 19/06/2017 16:12

Sorry- realised you said £11,000. That's not too bad Smile

It was 4 years ago. It was quite a big kitchen, but we didnt have wall units or any full height larder units - brought a vintage pine dresser instead.

You can also buy the same belfast sink and taps from another supplier which saved nearly £1000 (showroom told us that). And as I said no worktops or appliances.

Is there also a price difference perhaps between Neptune and Kit Stone?

LilaGrace · 20/06/2017 13:18

I'd never heard of Kit Stone until I came on this thread. Do they just do similar kitchens to Neptune or are they part of the same supplier? X

My whole kitchen including some plastering, electrics, new lighting, fuseboard, high end appliances, new flooring, etc was 2/3 of what Neptune cabinetry alone would have cost. I still dream that one day I will have one but in the meantime have made do with a double vanity unit in the bathroom and a sofa! I also had a carpenter copy their office cupboard for my computer to be hidden away.

My kitchen is made by Callerton. I used a local independent Cambridge Kitchens

Allthebestnamesareused · 20/06/2017 14:36

My friend had a quote from Neptune and the cabinetry was £65k! She said she had never seen the colour drain from anyone's face as wiicky as it drained from her DH's but it certainly made her other choices look more reasonable!

Allthebestnamesareused · 20/06/2017 14:36

Quickly not wiicky

LilaGrace · 20/06/2017 15:04

Allthebest-£65k! Oh god! That is definitely not in my budget! What were you quoted for your Neptune kitchen and how big was it?

OP posts:
Sunnyshores · 20/06/2017 16:51

Neptune is the maker, they have showrooms. Kitstone is a retailer that sells just Neptune kitchens. I thought they were exactly the same price, but perhaps not. The Marlborough shop has closed down now I see, so perhaps they dont exist anymore.

Other similar kitchens from Higham and Plain English. I found them more expensive, but others say not. It probably depends on your cabnet mix.

LilaGrace · 20/06/2017 17:18

Oh no- I thought Plain English were really expensive and that Neptune was a medium priced brand. Maybe I'm going to have to look elsewhere. I was hoping to spend around £20,000 excluding worktops and appliances.

OP posts:
Sunnyshores · 20/06/2017 17:29

Lila - I would have thought that was doable for a medium U shaped kitchen, as long as youre not having several larder units. You can reduce the cost by chosing mostly larger standard cupboard type units (ie not a bin unit or other fancy units, 1000 size instead of several 600 units etc) but I still had the big pan drawers either side of the Aga. As I said standard colour not upgrade, source the sink and taps yourself, a different fitter maybe. There are lots of ways to make it more affordable.

I did my design and lots of changes by email with the designer, then a measure up by them just prior to ordering.

LilaGrace · 20/06/2017 18:07

Thanks sunny. I'll bear all that in mind. Good tips 😊

I've had really good service from Neptune. The kitchen is great quality. Had it recently and cabinets for a medium sized kitchen cost £16k plus worktop, plus fitting.

LilaGrace · 20/06/2017 18:15

Only- that's very encouraging! Would you mind sending me a picture? Feel free to pm me if you'd rather and are happy to do so. Which style of units did you get? And roughly how large is your kitchen? Which worktop style are you going for?

OP posts:
Fantasticmissfoxy · 20/06/2017 18:21

We had a Neptune kitchen fitted last year and I love it. It wasn't cheap but it's a massive kitchen and looks amazing (I think 😊) for a very large kitchen including an island of 2.5m square it was £18,000 for the cabinets only
