Fitting out storage room

Hi

We have a small back room, about 3.5 m X 2.5, with two doors.

I'm going to get it plaster boarded and tarted up a bit.

Could do with storage ideas though. As there's s lot to fit in!

New sink, new ceiling hung airer

Exising chest freezer, recycling boxes, three bikes, two garden loungers with long cushions, long cushions for garden benches, lawn mower, mop and broom, cat basket, old tins of paint tools etc.

And a wine rack!

Any ideas?

There are some great photos on Houzz. I'm envious of your problem!

I looked at houzzs but was finding it hard to navigate.

I'm thinki about a tall cupboard for the our side cushions.

its a nice space to have but we haven't made the most of it!

How about a bike rack on the wall? Shamelessly asking that as I want one so want some feedback!

I recommend hanging stuff on the walls on those massive black hooks you can get - eg the bikes, chairs, loungers. Maybe on the wall above the chest freezer, since you won't be able to put any shelves above that because of opening it.

We bought really sturdy plastic shelving for our new shed from a local DIY place for £20 and it's great for tools, gardening stuff etc. Or Ikea plain wooden shelving (but attach it to the wall as it's wobbly without!) - if you have several shelves close together you could stack the lounger cushions on them

If you're planning to use it for laundry, I can recommend the Ikea Algot storage system- I have some uprights and a hanging rack in my utility which uses the wall space well.

If you're getting a new sink, get a massive one (1m long) so you can use it for soaking big pans, BBQ grill, or washing pets in! And have a cupboard underneath for all the odd cleaning stuff you don't use all the time, plus old towels etc.

I'll shut up now Smile

You can't keep a wine rack in that room as it sounds like the temperature won't be stable and will be way too warm from the freezer.

When I say wine rack - it's not for posh longevity keeping wine! The temperature is pretty stable in there - we have wine in at the moment and it's fine. The freezer doesn't seem to make much difference. I use it for storing onions at the moment and they are fine too - it's a nice dry airy room if it wasn't for all the crap in it.

The big hooks are a really good idea thank you and I love the idea of a big long sink.

I've seen some bike racks that hang the bikes vertically like this.

Laundry - would use a ceiling dryer in there = but we've got a tiny utility room with the washer and dryer in.
