New kitchen help!

user1497207858 · 11/06/2017 20:18

I am going to be fitting a new kitchen into my property. I've got all the brochures and decided on a colour scheme.

The problem I'm facing is not spending a huge amount of money.

We want to book a design appointment but are just waiting for the measurements (new property and owner is on holiday)

The kitchen is roughly 5m x 3.5m

I know it depends on what materials we buy, appliances etc but what would you estimate the cost at?

Magnets want to charge something ridiculous like £27k?! And most of those costs go on labour. No way are we paying for that!!

Can anyone give some advice?

My kitchen is approx 4m by 3.5m. Units on two sides in an L shape. For kitchen without appliances / floor we had quotes between £6k and £8k. (Have to factor in the fitting too on top of that which depends who you get to do it! Plus appliances obvs)

Ones to try:
Benchmarx
Ikea
Howdens

Or if you don't mind doing the design yourself, try DIY kitchens.

(Also good quality laminate worktops are your friend!! Rather than £££s on granite etc Grin)

I was thinking of getting someone to design the kitchen for us then go to places like wickes, howdens etc then asking someone to fit them.

Kitchen are expensive!

My kitchen is a U shape approx 4m x 2.8m x 2.6m. We are ordering from diy kitchens, units and laminate are just under £3.5k, appliances elsewhere around £1100 (not including fridge freezer as bought a new one last year). Budget is about £8.5k. Magnet are expensive and their fitting costs are a lot more than sourcing one yourself.
You can get independent kitchen planners oneplanonhouzz is one, they just plan it and then you take the plan to different companies for quotes. Or you can go to the various companies and get them to do the plan for you.

We had a design from Magnet - we were then staggered at the cost, which they reduced slightly by removing things from the design Hmm. Then we recreated it with DIY Kitchens.

I would second Benchmarx for being a reasonable price. We had the original plan drawn up by B and Q, but then used Benchmarx via our builder (Benchmarx, Howdens and probably a few other companies won't deal with you direct, it has to be through a builder) Our kitchen is 22 feet by 10 feet and everything was done for around 8k including d/w, cooker and fridge freezer. It's mid range to keep cost down. Magnets are so expensive. Some friends had a kitchen about 8 x 8 feet down by them and it came out at around 17k. I couldn't believe it.

Wicked will design your kitchen for you. We've just ordered ours from them. The designer came out for a chat & to measure up, then we went in a few days later to see the 3d computerised design and to tweak it. Fab service.

Get your design done by Magnet or whoever you like on the high street... then send it to DIY Kitchens and they'll put everything you need in an online basket for you. It will be miles cheaper, promise.

We would have looked at Benchmarx as our builder suggested them, but they didn't do the cabinet colour I wanted. So despite being daunted by it I redesigned the whole thing with DIY Kitchens. Wish I'd known I could have sent them my design at the time, but then I wouldn't have all the little personal touches I added, not to mention the sense of smug satisfaction Grin

Oh, and applicances from ao.com.

Thank you all this advice is very helpful! I am so excited to have a new kitchen. I will be using Magnet to design then will speak to DIY Kitchens or Brenchmarx. Just need to find someone to fit the kitchen now! The DP thinks he can do it, although he's never done it before........

You will have to play along with Magnet and go to the showroom to go through the design, choose worktops and handles, etc and they will only give you pictures to take away so make sure you have a handle on measurements, etc.

I meant Wickes in my earlier post.....though my new kitchen is going to look wicked! 😉
