We have found our dream forever home and have scrambled to prepare our house and get it on the market. Finally went up for sale this week and we had our first viewings today.

Our neighbours, who we get on well with and who know of our plans and desperation to move, announced today they will be starting a full width one storey extension next week. He's a builder and will be completing the work himself. He claims to be starting now because their planning permission is about to run out.

I feel so selfish for asking, but will this negatively affect us? I'm so worried about losing my beautiful house now I'm so close!

In a way it will be better if there extensionis started as your potential buyer will be able to see the extent of the extension whereas their planning would show on searches and they may be worried more about the unknown.

However I wouldn't mention how demanding your neighbours are re taking kids to school/feeding them as that would definitely put me off!!

It will come up on the searches. At least this way your buyers know at viewing , although it is always wise to do an initial planning search anyway.

Sorry to burst your bubble but I would be put off (and was in the past). I was looking to buy a house in a block of identical houses so I waited for another one to come up on the market.

Viviene, there are no more guarantees that most blocks of houses will remain identical than a lovely view will remain that way!

OP, your response to Moving was absolutely bizarre? In what way did she need to calm herself? Her response was perfectly reasonable!

I think you are overreacting, he has had planning permission for this and I don't think anyone serious about buying the house will be put off, particularly as it is only bringing it into line with your house.
