Ordering appliances online: which companies

It's just going to be me at home, so when my appliances are delivered, I want the delivery people to bring them inside and nit dump em on the doorstep. I want a named day delivery (I'm taking a day off work to wait for everything).

Appliances Online (ao.com) seem good. John Lewis equally. What others? With tough price competition I don't want to make the mistake of going too cheap.

I'm ordering an entire kitchen and utilty room's worth

I was going to say ao.com or John Lewis. These are the 2 I'm looking at for our appliances and we're doing kitchen and utility rooms too. They both have a good selection and seem competitive.

Crispsheets · 04/06/2017 19:28

Both excellent

TheStoatIsStoatallyDifferent · 04/06/2017 19:31

We bought our American fridge freezer from ao. They brought it into the kitchen and put it right in the space we'd left for it. My house is up a bank from the street so they had to carry it up 15 steps!

ShortLass · 04/06/2017 19:33

Seems like it could be look no further...

Yes to ao.com.

Clickncollect · 04/06/2017 19:34

Another vote for ao.com from me!

Uberfluffs · 04/06/2017 19:54

I haven't tried ao, but have tried others and settled for John Lewis because they're so good at fitting things, and also have been very good if something doesn't work within the guarantee period - they've fixed and replaced things very quickly.

I remember trying to replace something which didn't work with Curry's - never again, they just didn't want to know.

Funnily enough I started very similar thread not that long ago. I decided to go with John Lewis in the end even though they were more expensive (like for like) than AO or some other online retailers. I was willing to pay premium for a smooth experience as moving to new place is stressful enough.

I cant believe how wrong I was! First time both items were damaged, so I asked them to redeliver. No-one showed up for the second delivery. They sent out confirmations etc and then on the day towards the end of delivery slot I got a call that they screwed up something on their system and no one is coming with goods. Now I am waiting for a 3rd attempt, if successful it will be almost 2 weeks after the initial delivery supposed to happen.

Definitely wont be buying again!

FreckledLeopard · 05/06/2017 11:46

ao.com were great. Also, if you order via Quidco (cashback site) then you should get a percentage cash back too (I think it was about 4% from memory).

MaverickSnoopy · 05/06/2017 11:59

I only use AO now. After wasting lots of time researching and coming back with AO each time, I now don't bother and just use AO. I actually just had to return something after 6 months under the consumer rights act and they were AMAZING. Once the engineer had checked it over they took it away and delivered the replacement item the very next day and even paid the difference in price between the old and new model.

tobee · 05/06/2017 12:08

I think a.o too. And I think they're good because that's all they do. They don't have stores, except virtual ones, and they deliver** because there's no alternative. I think others are going to have to pull their socks up. I waited in all day for currys to deliver my dishwasher only to get a terse, garbled phone message from the driver (I just missed the call) because he'd got his lorry stuck in a width restriction a few roads from where I live. He was cross with me! Told me he now couldn't deliver. I had to then re arrange with currys not him. Angry

tobee · 05/06/2017 12:10

Don't know why those ** are in there.

MMXV · 05/06/2017 12:10

AO

Although they will plague you with chatty phone calls to follow up, supposedly to check you're satisfied but actually to sell you an extended warranty.

I am a residential landlord and have learnt through years of experience that "top of the bottom" brand products (Hoover; Hotpoint) are almost as good as top of the range products (Miele) for a third of the price. When they break down, you can buy and have a replacement installed by AO.com the next day.

Try booking a Miele repairman within the next fortnight and see how much they charge for spare parts before you patronise your cheapskate friends about false economies Wink.

onesilencetoofar · 05/06/2017 12:17

ao.com

wowfudge · 05/06/2017 12:22

I've bought from a number of businesses with an online presence and had good service - Marks Electrical, the Co-op and an independent where I saved over £400 on the normal retail price of a cooker.

Whitelisbon · 05/06/2017 12:28

Another vote for ao.com here, wouldn't use anyone else now.

namechange20050 · 05/06/2017 12:30

AO. Got my cooker and dishwasher from there & will shortly purchase a washing machine. Stuff came the next day, good customer service and best prices.

Enelya · 05/06/2017 12:30

I've used co-op electrical a few times, always been fine

weegiemum · 05/06/2017 12:57

AO refused to fit my washing machine because of a "leak", which the plumber couldn't find! He did it in 5 mins (up to the ears in washing!) and didn't charge us. Never leaked since!

JL all the way for me, brilliant service, arrive on time and take everything - including the old appliance - away with them.

chrisrobin · 05/06/2017 13:10

I used Co-op electrical twice just before Christmas, went through quidco and got cash back once and used a voucher I found online the other time. Delivery was quick and to the room I wanted, they also kept us up to date with the delivery time via text.

wowfudge · 05/06/2017 13:29

I find the item I want then shop around for the best price and check when they can deliver, etc. You are well-protected if you buy online and pay by credit card.

HipsterRaccoon · 05/06/2017 13:32

I've just used ao.com, they do Saturday deliveries too so didn't need a day off work.

chipscheeseandgravy · 05/06/2017 13:33

John Lewis customer service is very good!. They will take packaging away regardless of it you've paid for them to connect it. They tend to be more expensive but your paying for the convenience.

dotdotdotmustdash · 05/06/2017 17:15

I was wavering between Boots and AO a few months ago. AO had free delivery but Boots appliances were slightly cheaper. The final total would have been exactly the same. What swung it was that I could collect Boots Advantage points so I went with Boots and gained £33 of points. Turns out that they're both the same company.

dotdotdotmustdash · 05/06/2017 17:17

Forgot to say that the Boots delivery folk put the appliances where they were asked and even took away an old appliance that was sitting on the drive even though we hadn't paid for removal.
