Would you miss kitchen drawers?

I'm desperate for a dishwasher and the only place it'll fit is where 4 drawers are under the sink. These are the only drawers in the kitchen.

At the moment we use the top one for cutlery and we don't really use the other 3.

Due to the location we could pull the drawers out, cut and sand the skirting and put a dishwasher in. We could put the cutlery in a cupboard.

Would you miss drawers or prefer a dishwasher space? I'm just thinking about resale.

We had our cutlery in something like this: www.amazon.co.uk/d/Home-Kitchen/SHABBY-WORKTOP-CUTLERY-HOLDER-CLEAR/B00B0MXZ1I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496339482&sr=8-1&keywords=cutlery+box&tag=mumsnetforum-21

Easy to see and it kept it clean too. We had it on the kitchen table, but it could go in a cupboard or on a worksurface too. I would love a dishwasher, btw, and would give up cupboards or drawers for one.

I've had a kitchen with just 2 teeny drawers and it was a nightmare! I now have 4 single width drawers and 4 double width deep pan drawers (plus 2 in the sideboard).
I'd never go back to no or minimal drawers.

Where would you keep the cutlery / clean tea towels etc.

I also keep baking trays in one and all the cling film / foil / freezer bags in another - saves them attacking you when you need to find something.

Having said all that about drawers (I got a bit carried away due to my love of them) I'd sacrifice to have a dishwasher if it was my only option.

But if the drawers are under your sink then the dishwasher would be under your sink .... sorry but can't see how that would work. You need to access sink and tap and dishwasher at the same time. Hmmm.

This is an impossible choice! I used to have no drawers and a dishwasher and hated having nowhere for cutlery. Is moving house an option OP? I am joking really, but that's what I did...

On a more serious note, if you have plenty of cupboard space then an open tray/box would do the trick. I had no cupboard space in the last house either

I'd get rid of the drawers for a dishwasher and buy some internal drawers/baskets for cupboards.

SpearmintTea · 05/06/2017 17:26

When our previous dishwasher died our kids chose a new dishwasher over a holiday, so I'm pretty sure it would win against drawers!

Kokusai · 05/06/2017 18:19

I love drawers but I'd sacrifice drawers in order to have a dishwasher.

Dishwasher rules everything.

KanielOutis · 05/06/2017 18:30

I have a dishwasher under the sink. They don't take up much space at all.

NoSquirrels · 05/06/2017 18:34

W did exactly that in our last kitchen, OP. Very small galley, one set of drawers, got rid and had a slimline dishwasher, life immeasurably improved. So so so so worth it, honestly.

Cutlery is the only thing to consider, and to be honest, who loves cleaning the crumbs out of the bottom of the cutlery tray anyway (or is my house the only one where it gets manky)? Pots for cutlery, don't look back.

Rip it out now! Order the dishwasher.

Drawers win for me. I added extra ones to the ones I already had.

I keep mixing bowls and plastic containers in drawers, as well as cutlery, cling film etc, rolling pins, my hand blender, tea towels and dish cloths and it's just so easy to find and get to everything.

If I had to go back to stacking it all in a cupboard, I'd spend more time looking for stuff and putting it back tidy again than I'd save washing up.

In my old house my kitchen was tiny. I had no drawers and precious little storage. I had a sideboard in the dining room which had all my crockery, cutlery and shite in.
