Can we demand that our sellers fix broken door?

Hello

Just been for a viewing on a house that we're buying and discovered the lock on the patio door is broken so they can't be opened.
Can we demand they get it fixed? I feel a little irritated that they haven't already.

Thanks

I think demand might be a little...harsh. You could ask them?? Did they try to hide the fact that the door was broken/intentionally mislead you? Worst case you fix it yourself, I doubt it would be too expensive?

I would worry more about what else hasn't been fixed! You can ask but I would just add to the jobs to do when you move in. You'll surely want to change the locks anyway?

How far through the process are you? I suppose you could drop your offer by the couple of hundred it might take to completely replace them but it seems a bit petty.

When we sold our house the buyers' surveyor came back with a really petty list of (even smaller) things (e.g.) 'the porch has a flat roof; flat roofs are prone to leaking; please get the roof refelted before sale completes.' without a shred of evidence that said roof had ever leaked.
I'm afraid we just said No to all of them and that the house was for sale as seen.

A locksmith fixed mine for £140.
You can certainly ask them to fix the doors, if they were not broken when you first viewed I'd sort of expect it to be done.
Talk to your agent!

sure you can, and they can say no.

All houses have things wrong with them. The roof and the drains are much more important than a lock.

You can ask, they can refuse. I'd ask nicely rather than demand anything.

When we moved last time we had to drill out a lock because they didn't leave a key for our kitchen door.
