Hey Everyone Smile

I have been stalking Mumsnet for about 6 months and decided to make an account today!

Planning a home extension and as a second hand queen I have found near enough most of the goods I need for my reno. Planning to start in about 6 to 12 months. Still saving Confused.

I knew from the onset that I couldn't walk into Magnet and get a new kitchen. Or spurge £5k on new engineered flooring.

For the past 6 months or so I have bought everything I need from eBay, Gumtree etc.

So this is a thread created to share those special finds and give confidence to people who have a limited budget that does not meet their style expectations.

I will kick off and start sharing pics

Tulips2lips · 23/05/2017 15:09

impressed with the flooring find, was that eBay?

trixymalixy · 23/05/2017 15:16

Our previous house had had the banister removed at some point. We reinstated it with cast iron uprights found on ebay. £40 for the lot delivered!!

Just don't ask how much the wooden bannister cost!

Tulips2lips yes found the listing on eBay. Then met the guy to have a look at the colour. Was going to wait for the offer to end but was scared I would lose. So I made an offer of 650 cash with a quick collection and the builder accepted. Its was actually delivered this morning.

See, I'd happily look on eBay for second hand furniture (have bought and sold plenty) but would never have thought to look for "fixtures and fittings".

I'd worry that, if I bought a second hand floor, or kitchen, it would be the wrong size/missing vital components/impossible to install.

Tinydesigns · 23/05/2017 18:43

I love love love your bath and bathroom!!! Absolutely beautiful

Thanks!! Also realised that the shower and the cabinet are also from eBay and gumtree respectively, both under £100.

CointreauVersial, As long as a person has consistent positive feedback then I will purchase.

Tons of people sell things due to uncompleted projects, businesses on eBay sell ex-display or stock thats not selling, plus there are liquidations. And for the most part if an item is missing a washer you can buy one.

Flooring is click tongue and groove. No glue was used and due to it being laid and removed by professionals it is in perfect condition. It was only used for a few months in the show home. People lay reclaimed flooring all the time.

Kitchen again removed by professionals. Its easier if you are starting with a blank canvas and have a good sized space which I will do due to my side return extension. I was confused on how to lay the kitchen so hired a kitchen and bathroom planner on fiverr and he mocked up all the plans, 2d images and 3d images for £35. See attached images.

My friend had just completed her bathroom and she sourced all tiles, fittings and fittings from eBay, Gumtree and Facebook. The only thing she bought in a shop was her glitter grout lol.

Brilliant buys.

Is your flooring real slate. How is it under foot?

OP posts:
trixymalixy · 23/05/2017 20:56

Yes it's real slate. Do you mean is it cold underfoot? We found it fine although the boiler is directly underneath which probably helped.
