Cost of replacing boiler

Has anyone done this recently? I've had 3 quotes all pretty much £2,700 inc VAT (and that's the cost even for the chap who isn't VAT registered!). It seems like so much. I'm in the South East (not London). Not sure whether to keep looking or sell a kidney.

Oh yes ours is gas, for a 3 bed semi supplying 9 radiators. Was fitted by local gas safe registered company, not an energy supplier. Was going rate for our area but then we are in the south.

We paid about £2000 for boiler inc installation about 5 years ago.

Our was a combo boiler for a one bed flat if it makes any difference and fitter by British Gas.
