kitchen design rules/distances

Can anyone point me to a good link for kitchen design rules, like distance between fridge, hob, sink, pantry etc. or may be tell from your experience.
google results come up with mostly websites based on american kitchens and they are way bigger than average british kitchens.

Have a look on houzz (UK site) they have a couple of articles that I looked at.

The bigger the kitchen, the bigger the distances will be! If it is a tiny kitchen everything will be handy! However a work triangle is the gold standard: therefore cooker and hob, fridge and sink to be in a triangle. You want to avoid any of these items being on the extremity of the design unless it is linear of course. Also allow 1.2m between an island and wall units. Make sure there is work surface around the hob and oven and the sink. Plenty of sockets is vital and drawers rather than lots of small cupboards.

I would also look at the project areas of kitchen manufacturer/ design web pages to see good examples. E.g. Cotteswood, Plain English, DeVol, Neptune, etc

Between your sink and job you want at least 80cm work space without interruptions. You probably don't want more than 150cm. This will be your main prep space so prioritise it.

Either side of your hob you need work space, if you can at least as long as your longest pan handle. You need a clear space on which to unload a wall oven or fridgefreezer, min 50cm next to the opening side or directly opposite.

The best order is fridge -> sink -> hob as that's the order you tend to do things in when making anything.

If you can keep the fridge near the door or eating area, that will help stop people getting in your way while you are cooking.

Avoid putting an obstacle (e.g. table, island) between any two of fridge, sink and hob.

Think about unloading the dishwasher. When open it sticks out about 60cm or more. Will you be able to walk past, and will it block any cupboards. Also it's better if it'a not between the hob and the sink.

Have clear space to the right of the microwave, so you've got somewhere to put things once you've opened the door.

Marking place! Not sure about 1.2m between island and wall units, we have 0.9m and I reckon 1m would be ok but any bigger could feel too far away

I read advice on another thread to imagine yourself doing some common tasks, are there any blockages or very long distances? Eg

  • make a cup of tea
  • make bowl of cereal/round of toast
  • unpack shopping
  • unload dishwasher
