Want to move house/area - stuck in limbo

Hi
Having made the decision that we are going to move house out of the area but within the same county, I feel very much stuck in limbo because we can't find a house that we want to move to. We have identified a few preferable areas but the areas we have selected have very little housing stock hence not much comes on to the market - and we have a list of must haves - must be detached, off road parking and so on.
Meanwhile we need to find somewhere asap as we need to put dd 2 name down on a list for a good primary school. She is at pre-school near to where we currently live and I know we have no chance of getting into the school to which her current pre-school is attached whilst I definitely don't want her to go to our immediate primary school. Argggh! There's nothing really keeping us in this immediate area, I am ready for a change. I do have a few friends here but they are busy with their own families/lives and I suppose so am I - although we definitely meet up for coffee etc and because I have sent dd2 to a pre-school outside of the village (definite reasons) I have not really managed to connect with anyone and don't feel part of that community (though obviously exchange pleasantries etc). Just want to feel more involved with the school/community so looking to live on the outskirts of a village (with a few facilities). My heart has gone out of this house because I know that we plan to move - DIY/garden/making it my own etc

Has anyone else found themselves in a situation where they were ready to move but can't because of available properties etc? I'm hoping I'm not the only one who feels stuck! Just a moral support thread really.

Are you in the U.K.? If so then primary school lists don't exist. You apply between September-January before they start school and it is decided against criteria not who got on the list first. Pre school has no bearing in our county.

Hi Motherofdragons
Yes, UK based - I need to move into an area before Jan when applications go in; siblings get first priority then lac and then geographical area around here. dd's sibling will have left junior school anyway and so has no bearing and there is a high ratio of siblings at school attached to pre-school - as we live out of the immediate area, dd won't stand a chance. Wish now, I hadn't left it so late but wanted to make sure the move wasn't just a knee jerk reaction to a trauma I experienced - it wasn't and now I'm determined to move and desperate for a property to come up. It's almost as if I have recovered a bit from the trauma and feel more sociable etc. now instead of my previous state which was insular and withdrawn unfortunately, I never really made an effort but it was always going to be difficult with play dates etc living a little way away. I want to make an effort to feel 'part of' the school community etc. again and now seems like a good time to make the move. But now, its the waiting game - I know there is no such thing as a perfect property but at the same time don't want to rush into just anything.

Anything rented? If you moved into a rental you could then move much more easily when a property does come up.

I feel your pain @user47498754759 we have been looking for 14 months now Sad

If time is not on your side then I would move into rented to within the catchment of the school you want. Then you can take your time with finding the perfect property.

Feel your pain. Our numbers are mega tight with selling ours (neg equity) so we're not on the market yet - but planning to within the next month. In the meantime we're looking around in the areas we want (we are moving into the next county though). Similar situation; we know what we want but everything we see is either too big or too small! I've seen the perfect house but it's in the wrong area. Starting to worry about never being able to find something that ticks the boxes we want and that's in budget.
