I think I have found the perfect name for the new house that I'm building

It doesn't need a name really as it has a number. We are building two houses as it's a large plot and they will be 1 and 1a, but I was reading the objection letters today and one of them called the house that will be our house an 'aesthetic monstrosity'. I think it has a nice ring to it, it'll be classy. Grin

😂 on a slate plaque!!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 06/05/2017 20:08

Ohh yes! In nice big letters so that Mr No. 8 can see it clearly every time he drives past. Grin

You could have house one as Aesthetic Monstrosity and house two with an arrow pointing to AH called Im With AH

AM! Whoops!

Madmotherintheattic · 06/05/2017 20:12

I love it. It's easy to register a name (just do it at the PO) but if I were you I would have a beautiful and large house sign made, perhaps in Victorian style, and display it prominently on the gate.

Someone complained about the colour of our front door once and I was highly tempted to get a sign that said "Overly loud and out of place"

OhTheRoses · 06/05/2017 20:14

One Plus, Zero,

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 06/05/2017 20:15

Or it could be Aesthetic Monstrosity and Son of Aesthetic Monstrosity. Grin

Never, ever, ever give a house with a number a name.

The height of twatsville IMO even if this is a good one

chickpeaburger · 06/05/2017 21:28
Biscuit
BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 06/05/2017 22:20

I don't think I've ever had a biscuit before.

Don't worry Bearbehind, I much prefer houses with numbers anyway.

Who are the objection letters from? I take it your planning permission hasn't been granted yet? Maybe it'll be refused

BikeRunSki · 06/05/2017 22:31

I thought the post office gave all houses a number a number anyway, even if they were commonly known by a name.

We used to live at Upper VillageName Farm Cottage, which was a couple of hundred years old. Also allocated as 42, even though it had no visible number.

BikeRunSki · 06/05/2017 22:32

I meant to say, "no visible neighbours". But number works too.

Rubberduckies · 06/05/2017 22:38

Hmmm don't think that can be right - I'm in a block of cottages built between number 36 and number 38. We all have names rather than numbers, what would the post office call us? 37.5?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 06/05/2017 22:40

We're not in the UK so it works differently here and numbers are less common than names except for urban areas, but this road does have numbers so thats what we'll be using.

We don't have pp yet Floggingmolly and there are usually changes that need to be made, but the county council that we are in are trying to densify the housing as the population is growing and likely to grow even faster because of Brexit (I'm in Dublin so quite a few companies in London are considering opening offices here to be able to remain in an English speaking country that is also EU). So I think we will get permission. My project manager has some concern that two houses might not be enough for the planning office as it's a reasonably large plot and a developer would put eight family homes on it.
