What would you look for in your next house?

Mainly because im nosy! Im very happy where i am but always keep half an eye on rightmove to see what i would have to pay to get a house the next size up. For me id be looking for:

4 beds
off road parking preferably a drive and a garage
large living space and a proper dining room, open plan living/diner would be ok but not open plan kitchen.
Large ish kitchen
French doors or sliding doors from the living room/dining room into the garden.
Garden at least 50ft
Some interesting features so no new builds, ready to move into but ideally with some work needed.

For this in my area id have to pay around £300-350k.

Im just interested to see what other peoples priorities or wish list would include. Smile

Off road parking!

LedaP · 06/05/2017 08:55

A house on 2 floors (currently in 3 storey)
Large garden
Large Kitchen diner (not bothered by a dining room) with garden access
2 living rooms
4/5 bedroom (would settle for 3 bedrooms if the bedrooms were all a good size)
A utility room with a door or window.

Would be looking at 400k here.

YorkshireTea86 · 06/05/2017 09:00

3 good beds (currently all 3 bedrooms are double so would want that again)
Big kitchen diner
Two reception rooms so when the kids get bigger we don't have to share a living room!
Biggest thing on my wishlist...off road parking and a garden. We don't currently have either and trying to find a parking space near the house can be a nightmare.

BeverlyGoldberg · 06/05/2017 09:03

Four beds, two reception rooms and some quirkiness.

Having said that I love my house and I have no desire to move but I keep half an eye on right move.

LedaP · 06/05/2017 09:04

Oh yeah off road parking for at least 3 cars. Dd is 13. We want to move in the next 2 years and not move again. So likely she will drive while we live there.

redfairy · 06/05/2017 09:08

If I was moving to the next step up I'd be looking for a bigger third bedroom, a downstairs loo and an ensuite from the master bedroom. I'd probably want a wider drive as we have to keep swapping cars around on ours and it's a PITA.

redfairy · 06/05/2017 09:09

Probably need to pay around £180k minimum in my area.

ElspethFlashman · 06/05/2017 09:13

I wouldn't care about a separate dining room as it would never be used except at Christmas. Kitchen table is fine for me.

Ditto French doors as they're relatively easy to install in many houses.

But I am obsessed with utility rooms. And cloakrooms - somewhere enclosed to dump coats and shoes on the ground floor, even if it's a cupboard under the stairs. Has to have a door so your clutter stays hidden.

Ikeameatballs · 06/05/2017 09:17

4 good size bedrooms, not a 4th box room
Master with ensuite then family bathroom. No 2nd en suite for the dc to argue over
2 good size reception rooms
Large kitchen diner with separate utility
Reasonable sized garden, privacy more important than size.

I've currently got points 3 and 4.on the list and my garden is ok but could be more secluded. The problem for me in my current house is the upstairs layout of bedrooms and bathrooms. Looking at new builds but struggling to find anything quite right.

soundsystem · 06/05/2017 11:35

Ah, DH and I are having just this discussion at the moment (and are not entirely in agreement!).

4/5 bedrooms
Good sized kitchen with room to eat in
Utility room
Two reception rooms
Family bathroom with room for a chair
Some character/quirkiness
A good house for hide and seek

(Ok, that last one might be DD's wish list, but I secretly agree!)

Carolinethebrave · 06/05/2017 13:06

Detached
5 beds 3 baths minimum
Off street parking
Not new build, must have some character
High ceilings, light rooms
A garden, medium sized
Big kitchen
At least 2 other receptions
A boot room
Utility room

Which is about £850k

Carolinethebrave · 06/05/2017 13:07

We have all of that and more now but we're not in the right area so we are moving.

BabyHamster · 06/05/2017 13:11

Elspeth snap! Utility room is very important to me.

Unlike others, I've never been fussed about character though. I'd be more than happy with a new build (but DH would veto).

bibbitybobbityyhat · 06/05/2017 13:14

We'll downsize to a smaller house in our next move.

It will be on a side street (nowhere near a main road) within walking distance to reasonable local shops.

I'll want a smaller garden, no more than 50ft, ideally west facing or south west facing.

I would love a utility room or even just a utility cupboard.

I'll want 3 small double bedrooms, not converted loft rooms but natural bedrooms.

Downstairs loo.

Must be under £800,000.

pinkdelight · 06/05/2017 13:15

4/5 beds, one with en suite shower room
Family bathroom plus downstairs WC
Off street parking
Two reception rooms
Eat-in kitchen but no more open plan than that
Non-naff conservatory with space for a running machine
Heated outdoor pool

Well, it is a wish list so I might as well dream... :)

pinkdelight · 06/05/2017 13:16

Oh lord yes, and a utility! Thanks for reminding me.

FaithAgain · 06/05/2017 13:35

We wanted:
2 floors (currently in a bungalow)
2nd loo
Room that can be a play room
Utility space
Large kitchen
4 beds

We gave up looking, took ours off the market. 6 weeks later the perfect property came up! We move in 2 weeks (hopefully!) and found a private buyer for our bungalow, DH's Grandma Smile

Palomb · 06/05/2017 19:43

Literally the only thing I'd change about my house was to have a S/SE facing garden instead of
The W facing garden we have. I'd love some evening sun.

Palomb · 06/05/2017 19:44

Sorry our current garden is E facing not W
