Dream Kitchen, Getting e price down

I just had a Clive Christian in to give me a quote. The kitchen was absolutely gorgeous. Granite tops, granite on he walls, big island. I asked for the plan and artists impression but they wouldn't give me that until I had paid a deposit. So I can't go away and think about it, or show other people for opinions on it. Bit weird that eh?

Anyway, they didn't include flooring, rewiring or other stuff like skimming the other walls in the quote, which will be a few k in itself. Their quote of 40k is therefore not compatible with my budget - also 40k, due to other stuff needing done. Should say I don't have that in cash but can release 40k when I remortgage in August, which I was going to use for the kitchen. What should I do. Can I haggle with them to get that down to 30k, or is that being unrealistic? Or is it a massive waste and I should get someone else in, then spend the rest on holidays and enjoying myself?

I'm good at bartering but only in a market type environment. I have never bartered in an actual shop as I would pass out with embarrassment (which is totally stupid as it should be the other way around, because the shop has more money involved)

What I do is let them tell me the price, then offer half of that and walk away. If the come after me, then they want to haggle, and if not then leave it.

I don't think this would work with a 40k kitchen though!! The poster above me who suggested going in with the drawings was a good one. I think you should do the same, it might be too late for this supplier but there are many more.
I recommend getting your kitchen designed and giving the drawings to several companies and see what comes back.

I know you say that these town houses are worth s lot, but the kitchen you posted wouldn't fit in there, it's like something out of Dallas. Its more for s big mansion but I love contemporary kitchens so ignore my opinion if you wish!
It's up to yourself though and if that's the style you definitely like then good luck and I hope it turns out lovely!

Please post photos!

You do not need to spend that amount to achieve the Clive Christian look you are after. Clive Christian know that - that's why the won't give you the drawings! They know you can get cheaper elsewhere and the look is easily copied.

I recommended up thread but have a look at Murray & Murray, they manufacture in Scotland.

Maybe too modern but as they make to order I'm sure they can help.

As for bartering, let them know you have a competitor of theirs working on a quote too.

We didn't barter enough for our kitchen and are regretting it now. We did successfully just get 20% off our flooring costs with Carpetright though. When he asked what we thought of the quote, we said we were actually hoping to pay X amount, and could he get closer to it which he did without any quibbles.

With a kitchen, I would get the full quote, and then work down from there. Check out if the appliances are better priced online and ask them to price match. Never give away your full budget either as they will price up to that as a target. Tell them you want to pay 30k, and see how they go with that.

Good advice ladies. I called and said I couldn't make an informed decision if I didn't have an itemised list of white goods included, more specifically the dimensions and specification. I don't think that's unreasonable to know before putting down a deposit! But they wouldn't entertain that. How strange is that? Anyhow, Murray and Murray is next on the target, what a bunch of chancers. Can you imagine buying a car with out putting down a deposit to know the type of engine? Fucking cunts.
