Would you view a house above your budget?

Really like it by pictures. Asking price is about 10% above our budget though we are saving significant amounts every month - so we could chip into it pretty quickly.

Do we see it?

Yes

scurryfunge · 04/05/2017 20:27

Go and view, yes. You can offer 10% below and see what happens.

NapQueen · 04/05/2017 20:29

Yes. 10% is alwas a good place to go in at and negotiate. Would you say it is fairly priced?

When dh and I buy our next house we will probably look to spend 140k. Id be more than happy viewing houses up to 155k.

SueGeneris · 04/05/2017 20:30

Yes.

We almost didn't view the house we bought but agent encouraged us. We bought it for 10% less than the asking price (started negotiating at about 15% less). Go for it.

It depends on the market for your area. If it's a sellers market then there will be bidding wars, a buyers market and there are bargains to be had. I paid £100k on a flat marketed at £110k (9 years ago).

Great - thanks guys. Will give it a go. We are chain free so that might help us.

yes, definitely view it. they could have priced a bit higher testing market etc or they could have dream house they want to buy and accept offers. book a viewing and see if you can find out anything like how soon they want to move, have they a specific place want to go to etc.

ElsieMc · 05/05/2017 19:54

Absolutely. I held off viewing houses I felt were too dear to find they reduced their prices later and were in fact houses we could have afforded. I would particularly look at houses that have been on the market a long while.

A colleague of mine had an offer of £260,000 against his asking price of £299,950 which he rejected but told me he really regretted it as he had been left a house which he intended to renovate and should have just moved on. It is down to individual circumstances, but if you don't ask, you don't get.

I offered 25k under asking for a house, and got the offer accepted. If you're a FTB, then you have lots of leverage. Offer a bit less than 10% under if you like it that much.

Ifailed · 06/05/2017 06:10

Depends on the area, 10% of 140k, yes, but not 10% of 900k.

ProfessionalCynic · 06/05/2017 22:32

We have recently had an offer of £465k accepted on a house listed for £495k. Definitely worth a look!!
