What's it like? Ours will have an external door to the side of the house, door to the kitchen & door to wc. It will be a galley kitchen style affair I think. Under the window will be a very wide & deep stainless steel sink, washing machine & tumble dryer. At the end of this run, a 60cm wide, tall broom cupboard type kitchen unit in which I plan to keep hoover, ironing board, mop etc. On the opposite wall I wish a wardrobe in which to store ALL the coats & some shoes, next to this a bench with shoe cubby holes under, and coat hooks above. I'd like high level shelves to store wicker baskets with gloves, hats etc - 1 for each of the 4 of us. Anything you'd change or add? What's yours like? Pics appreciated.

Ours desperately needs a makeover - currently houses washing machine, tumble dryer, spare fridge, vacuum cleaner, brooms, indoor washing line, boiler, butler's sink, a few cupboards and storage boxes with a huge amount of junk... not photo-worthy, but I'm watching for inspiration. Smile

My plan sounds very much like yours. It's currently a galley style but only with a space for the washing machine. Tumble dryer is currently in the kitchen. When we change the units i want both machines in there with some storage for cleaning stuff, shopping bags, dog paraphenalia etc. I'm not fussed about a sink. On the opposite wall i'm going for a cloakroom set up just as you describe with lots of pegs and benches with shoe racks underneath. It's also got access to the understairs cupboard which has the mop and ironing board etc.

It's pretty tired looking at the minute- naff carpet tiles and woodchip! But i'd love a tiled floor and a bit of a country style to it.

I want oak effect vinyl tiles in a herringbone pattern throughout most of downstairs but quite like the idea of bricks or flagstones in there, but then it's cold on the feet when you go to the loo. Can't decide whether to get a kitchen unit to use as a wardrobe nor an actual (Ikea) wardrobe. What's a butler's sink?

It's a deep white sink, old fashioned style sink. Yes, a wardrobe could work well for coats.

I'm planning one for my extension and am stupidly excited about it. Are you on pinterest. There's loads of utility/boot room ideas on there. I've made myself a lovely board! Grin

It sounds great

We have the 2 separate so the boot room has a bench with storage for shoes underneath and also room for cricket gear, coats and hats etc. It's also got a loo and sink.

Utility has washing machine, tumble drier, sink, storage for cleaning equipment and vacuum, room for ironing.

What about space for recycling or bins, do you need that? Ours is elsewhere but might it be worth considering?

This is a butler sink

Very useful

Butler sink is roughly same as Belfast sink? I want a big stainless steel one with a drainer.

The recycling keeps going round my mind 😁

I have a rail for hanging washing. An upright radiator for dying a few bits and pieces. My addition is a wine fridge. We stacked the WM and TD to make space. We also have storage for recycling.

Millybingbong · 05/05/2017 15:13

We've got quite a large space for this - currently in the planning.

We are also going to have space for folding chairs to put at kitchen table if required, a LOT of space for wine, a American fridge freezer, Welly store, ceiling mounted wash rack.
And lots of cupboard space for junk!

Liz79 · 05/05/2017 16:08

Love it GrinGrin dh insists nothing wrong with 13 Year old fridgefreezer that has broken draws, bottle holders & bits which won't come clean. It does keep stuff cold right enough. I have talked him into 15cm wine fridge & a 15cm tower wine rack

As well we have a large sink for hand washing, a spray tap, and a large drainer. Wall hung shelves divided into boxes above the sink/wine fridge for washing that comes out of the dryer and doesn't require ironing works well for us.

I have two fridges and a freezer in the kitchen. Our laundry is dome distsnce from the kitchen so I don't have anything in there that is frequently required for cooking.
