What would be on your ideal kitchen wish list?

I'm meeting a kitchen designer from Howdens at the house we're purchasing tomorrow to measure up for a kitchen. I'm planning on taking the design for a shop around.

Our budget is 16k Inc white goods and splashbacks and we're fitting it ourselves so needs to come assembled. Flooring is already done.
The kitchen is 12'6 x 10'5 and has an arch into dining room, and a single door into the garage. Ideally I'd like a corian worktop but depends on price.

I have to put cooker where it is on existing plan because of wiring, same goes for sink. I'm thinking of having a single fridge freezer on the wall facing the window and a tall cupboard there too. Possible a small Smeg range (90cm) cooker as I want an induction hob (oil boiler property and have one arm) and pyrolytic cleaning ovenjust because they're hard to find as a double build in and built unders seem smaller.

Has anyone had any nightmare kitchen layouts in a u shaped kitchen? Any brilliant cupboard styles?

It's the first time I've planned my own kitchen and I feel a bit lost. I've attached the floor plan as it currently is and the kitchen that was originally in the house next door, which I just find a bit boring really.

We are currently planning out kitchen too. My plan includes lots of pan drawers. Eye level double oven, we are also having a lemans pull out in one corner because we can't get two L shaped corner cupboards.

Jennifaerie · 03/05/2017 14:23

It's a nightmare isn't it 😂😂

First world problems though 🙈

too many decisions to make but definitely a first world problem!

QuitMoaning · 03/05/2017 19:33

I am finalising my kitchen. Plans are done, just making choices and my biggest love has been using tall corner larders instead of corner cupboard. I hate corner cupboards. Things just get lost in there.

It is very exciting but each day I change my mind about work surface colour. Flooring and cabinet colours done, just cannot settle on a work surface.

-Eye level double oven.
-Loads of plug sockets, a cupboard with sockets inside and a slide out bottom for blenders, toaster etc so they could be hidden when not in use.
-Spaces to sit- bar stools, small sofa/arm chair.
-Drawers rather than cupboards.
-Splash back with no grout.
-Cupboards up to the ceiling so you don't end up with greasy woks and vases sitting on top and collecting dust. That's a big one!
-Extractor fan on ceiling, not taking up wall space.
-Real wood, no mdf or chipboard in sight as it just crumbles, dents, peels, grows mould...
-some type of solid, ultra hard wearing, matte, cutting edge and man made surface for counters (even granite and marble smears, cracks and discolours).
-Good lighting...not a halogen sunken bulb in sight!
-Slim, wooden open shelving for nice crockery, jars, ceramics etc.
-Matte finish on doors so finger prints don't show.

I have a tiny shit kitchen. I spend a lot of time thinking about what I'd do if we had more money and space! Grin

Great ideas thanks for that! We're very lucky getting the chance to pick it all but it's all very confusing 😂😂

Things I have I wouldn't be without:

Drawers only
Open shelves
Plywood formica fronts
Boiling water tap
Integrated soap dispenser next to tap
Island with seating
Induction hob

There are plenty of other things I like but these are my can't do without ones.

I moved last year and my kitchen is totally different to any I have had before as it is a period property with several original large built in cupboards (dresser, larder) and a couple of smaller original built in cupboards. I ripped out all the existing units and have replaced them for food storage with "vintage" (antique) kitchen cupboards and hanging rails for pans. I am so much happier not having a kitchen filled with horrid modern carpentry.

AppleAndBlackberry · 03/05/2017 20:47

I had a new kitchen installed last year. We have a kitchen diner so didn't bother with a breakfast bar although I know a lot of people like them. We got a hot water tap and a built in microwave, which saves quite a bit of worktop space. I wanted induction but DH wanted gas and he's more into cooking than me so I agreed to a gas on glass hob on the basis that he would clean it! I actually really like it now it's here though. I wanted 2 ovens but didn't have space in the end so we got a double built under one. We built around the fridge and got extra tall cupboards to maximise storage. I just got standard laminate worktops as we were on a budget, but I'm pretty happy with them.

oleoleoleole · 03/05/2017 20:51

A one and a half sink or two sinks
Dishwasher
Integrated appliances
Wine cooler/warmer
Pull out larder cupboard
Island
Sockets in work tops that pop up (no trailing wires)
Excellent lighting and extraction

oleoleoleole · 03/05/2017 20:51

Oh and recycle and refuse bin in cupboard

tovelitime · 03/05/2017 22:05

I'm just doing my kitchen and my dealbreakers are:

A least 1.5 sink with waste disposal
Hot water tap
Induction hob
2 single ovens with warming tray and microwave
Larder cupboard with pull out shelves

For £16k you could go higher end than Howdens

Jennifaerie · 05/05/2017 10:29

We want to do Howdens as we're moving in 8 weeks and want to buy it very close to exchange and then fit it before completion which makes Howdens simpler than any other, also we want units that come assembled as we're fitting it with a few friends in the trade. We're going for Tewkesbury I think which makes it better quality as far as I can tell x

I am planning on a utility next to kitchen and looks like i have thought more about utility than kitchen.

utility
extra fridge/freezer (basically the old one)
floor to ceiling cupboard with drawers (as larder)
sink with drainer next to dishwasher
dishwasher
washing machine
dryer
base units/wall units (for storing extra plastic boxes, cleaning products, baking trays etc misc items)
worktop between those units to keep food processor, juicer, smoothie maker etc. (feels like big hassel taking them in and out of cupboard but i hate seeing them on worktop all the time)
extra fruit baskets
will keep old induction hob+extractor for any strong smelling/bulk cooking or when i want to cooking listening to radio while everyone is watching tv.
recycling bins for plastic,glass,paper etc.
somewhere to hang wet tea towels

kitchen
all basic stuff, though will have mostly drawers instead of shelves
gas hob with wok burner, eye level oven
may be integrated microwave(we dont use it much anyway)
sink without drainer and a normal and a compost caddy bins under sink.
huge windows, less wall units
wood block kind of looking laminate worktop
will arrange everything in zones so someone can arrange table, make tea coffee etc without coming in the way of cooking.

HomeExtender · 05/05/2017 14:14

LauraPalmersBodyBag how does the toaster slide out shelf thingy work? I'm wanting the same but just wondered if you're using anything specific for it? Thanks :)

bouncydog · 06/05/2017 08:19

New kitchen recently installed includes
Pan drawers
All integrated appliances
Boiling water tap that also does regular hot and cold and filtered cold
Full wall of full height cupboards so only bread maker and magimix on worktop
Full size integrated wine cooler
Extra wide induction hob and super powerful extractor
Slide and hide pyrolitic oven
Combi microwave and warming drawer
All solid wood and black granite

Replaced our 20 year old one from mfi and has to last for ever! We love it.

Kokapetl · 06/05/2017 21:58

Currently looking into getting a new kitchen. We looked at Howdens Tewksbury but found we could get a real wood shaker style cheaper at Homebase-with the price of the house it's not worth putting an expensive kitchen in!

We have a Smeg range, gas hobs though. Looks great and the ovens are really good.

My must haves are:
Integrated dishwasher
Equal space fridge freezer, frost free freezer and fridge with 2x bottle spaces in door.
Pan drawers.
Lots of other drawers
Maximising storage space round corners
At least 1.5x sink
Wood effect but not real wood surfaces.

Kitchen has a tiny utility room for the washing machine which is great.
It also has a built in larder cupboard, otherwise I'd probably have a tall larder unit.

Whattodowithaminute · 07/05/2017 08:52

bouncydog can I ask what extractor fan you went for?
